Media personality Piers Morgan has confessed that he would pay money to watch Tiger Woods play golf until he was 90-year-old.

Morgan has been playing alongside pro Matthew Jordan at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland this week when he made his bold claim.

The TV host and Arsenal football fan has long been an admirer of the world’s best sports stars. Including 15-time major winner Woods.

Although the golfing legend has been plagued by injuries and controversies – including a legal battle with a clothing brand, Morgan also insisted that Woods should continue playing for as long as possible.

Piers Morgan On Tiger Woods

I think Tiger should play as long as he wants. I would pay to watch Tiger Woods until he’s 90. So if he wants to keep playing golf, let him play.

I remember him being written off last time, and then he won the Masters again. And suddenly all the critics that told him to give up, look very, very stupid.

I would never, ever write off Tiger Woods. Obviously, his body’s not quite there yet, but if he was to get back to proper fitness, he’s an incredible athlete, with amazing mental strength — why can’t he carry on?

I think Tiger is the greatest to ever play the game. Just think peak Tiger, if you watch the videos of him or watched him at the time as I did, and you compare him to any other golfer in history, there’s no comparison, I don’t think.

Obviously there are other greats, but peak Tiger Woods, he would have killed everyone,’ Morgan explained.

If Piers Morgan thinks he can replicate just a fraction of Tiger Woods’ golfing success then he should probably think again! Especially after he screwed his tee shot on the 16th at St Andrews.

Morgan’s terrible attempt was being filmed and his immediate reaction demonstrated just how bad he knew he had done. And many were quick to let him know on X, formerly Twitter.

One account with the handle @fergpj simply posted ‘Haha. What a clown.’ Another saw their chance to strike by simply saying ‘Just like Arsenal. Bottled it.’

It’s highly unlikely Morgan will lose any sleep over his tee shot or the comments that came with it. However, he does need to work on his swing a considerable amount if he wants to improve.

Tiger Woods continues to add to his busy schedule after announcing a new business venture, but is still yet to help the PGA Tour and LIV Golf reach an agreement

Tiger woods

Legendary golfer Tiger Woods has announced plans to design a second golf course in Texas, as he takes on yet another major project.

Woods, 48, announced Thursday that he’s teaming up with the Bluejack Ranch brand to design another course in Aledo, Texas. In a note published on their website, Woods wrote: “I’m grateful for the encore opportunity to reteam with Bluejack National and home-towners Andy and Kristin Mitchell to design a course around this incredibly special property and community.”

He later added: “It’s extremely motivating for me to contribute to the golfing legacy of Fort Worth, and I’m excited to see what we’ll build together. We’ll share more after our next design meeting in Aledo.”

Woods remains one of several representatives from the PGA Tour holding talks with the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF) in an attempt to reach a deal with LIV Golf over a merger. Talks have been ongoing for over a year and Woods has been at the center of discussions but keeps finding new ventures to keep him occupied.

In addition to Woods’ new project, he’s set to debut a new golf league in January alongside fellow PGA Tour member Rory McIlroy. The high-tech golf league, TGL, will feature 24 top PGA Tour players in weekly televised matchups at an arena in Florida.

Woods and McIlroy partnered with renowned golf course architect Beau Welling to create virtual holes, which will be played in a 1,500-seater SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens. Woods and McIlroy will compete alongside big names such as Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, and Justin Rose.

With Woods heavily involved in the designs for a new course, preparing to launch TGL, and promoting clothing brand Sun Day Red, it’s left him with less time for traditional golf. Woods is now operating on a limited schedule and is next expected to play on Dec. 5 at the Hero World Challenge.

Woods’ days may be numbered in golf, but he’s been tasked with saving the future of the sport. The PGA Tour has been in talks with PIF since Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan and Saudi chief Yasir Al-Rumayyan announced a shock framework agreement last June.

The deal is yet to be signed almost 18 months later, although Woods held talks with the PIF recently in New York according to ESPN. The last update Woods offered was at The Open Championship in July, as he said: “I can tell you we’re making progress. I can’t tell you more than that just because we’re not going to negotiate on the outside.

“We’ve got to keep everything at a high level and private, but things are moving and things are changing… There’s a good interchange of ideas and thoughts on how the game could look going forward. It’s just a matter of putting that all together legally.

“Obviously we have the DOJ with oversight looking into that as well and making sure that we don’t do anything improperly there, as well, but also making sure that all the players benefit from this as well as everyone who’s involved. They want to make money as well. They want to make that return.”

LEDO, Texas — Even in the wake of his latest back surgery, Tiger Woods is staying busy. On Thursday, he is expected to formally announce his second Texas course-design project, Bluejack Ranch, in this small town just west of Fort Worth.

The course, which will be the centerpiece of a private club community set on a 900-acre working ranch, is slated to open in 2026. Backing the project are Andy Mitchell and his wife, Kristin, the same developers who built Bluejack National, which when it opened near Houston in 2016 was the site of Woods’ first U.S. course design.

Also on the development team is former PGA Tour player J.J. Henry, a Fort Worth resident who played with Woods on the 2006 U.S. Ryder Cup team, which lost to Europe at the K Club outside of Dublin, Ireland.

“This is an incredible piece of property with dramatic elevation changes and great scenery,” Henry told GOLF.com. “This is a very proud moment for it all to come together for something we have been working on for many years.”

Woods will collaborate on the course with his TGR Design partner Beau Welling.

The property also will include practice facilities, a lighted 10-hole par-3 course, a large family entertainment area, a spa and wellness area and a podcast studio — similar offerings to what are available at Blackjack National.

Bluejack Ranch sits on more than 900 acres that house horses, cattle and other livestock.

Among TGR Designs other credits are the public Payne’s Valley course at Big Cedar Lodge in Branson, Mo.; El Cardonal at Diamante in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico; and the par-3 Hay course at Pebble Beach. TGR also is working on Trout National, a private course in southern New Jersey backed by baseball great Mike Trout.

Woods’ design business is only of his many non-playing duties. He also is co-founder of the TGL indoor golf league, which is scheduled to start in early 2025, and he sits on the PGA Tour Policy Board, which is in the process of helping to shape the future of men’s professional golf. Woods turned down a request from the PGA of America to serve as the U.S. 2025 Ryder Cup captain, saying his schedule didn’t leave him time to do the job properly.

The LIV Golf-PGA Tour merger has been the flash point in the structure of golf competition ever since its plans came to the forefront. While the announcement happened quite a while back, there is almost constant attention on how it is going. The most recent flash in the pan was when it was revealed that some players felt that it was unfair that LIV Golfers would keep their earnings, which are in the hundreds of millions.

Tiger woods

The report was confirmed by Matt Fitzpatrick, who was asked whether the bad blood between the two tournaments’ golfers was starting to clear. He said, “Not necessarily. I think there’s probably some players in the States, their feelings, I don’t think they would be very happy.” PGA Tour golfers such as Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods, and others have been quite vocal about their strong dislike of the whole LIV Golf concept.

While many players are involved in the merger talks, it would seem that some players harbor a much stronger dislike for change than others. Rory McIlroy, particularly, has been very critical of LIV Golf from the beginning. However, his stance has somewhat softened recently as he said, “They both want the same thing too. It’s a matter of getting all the different constituents on board,”.

Tiger woods and John Rahm

This week will be a big step in the saga as a joint tournament is being held at the Dunhill Golf Links in Kingsbarn where PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan and LIV Golf owner Yasir Al-Rumayyan will be playing alongside several PGA Tour and LIV Golf professionals. But what does Matt Fitzpatrick think of a merger between the two tournaments?

Matt Fitzpatrick airs views

Matt Fitzpatrick had also been quite vocal about his dislike of the Saudi PIF-owned breakaway tournament, saying that he didn’t think it was fair that certain players could play in both tournaments. However, things appear to have changed as he conveyed his thought process, saying, “My issue was always, at the start, anyway, is you’ve gone over there. Like I don’t feel like it’s fair for you to try and come back and play, as well. But I would say I’ve changed on that now.” He also said that he wants to focus on himself rather than think about what is going on in the lives of other players.

Tiger woods and John Rahm

The Englishman also asserted that while he never harbored a desire to leave the PGA Tour and join LIV Golf, he understood why some golfers did. He said, “I’ve always said that I understood why people went. I’ve got no issues with that. No issues at all.” While LIV Golf has lured top players from both the PGA Tour and DP World Tour, the European Tour has been much more amiable in collaborating with the breakaway league. Some LIV Golf players have come back to play on the DP World Tour and more recently, LIV Golf Individual Champion Jon Rahm returned to play on home soil in a DP World Tour event.

So while all is not rosy for the merger, there is progress being made and issues being resolved. The change in perspective by Fitzpatrick and McIlroy is testament to the grinding out of an agreement for the good of the game.

Justin Thomas opened up on a frank and X-rated conversation he had with playing partner Tiger Woods before a difficult tee shot at the Presidents Cup, leaving the 31-year-old no closer to making his mind up on the course.

Thomas did not compete at this year’s Presidents Cup, despite an improved 2023/24 season for the world No. 30.

He played alongside Woods at the 2019 edition of the event en route to a victory for the US, but struggled with an approach and opted to ask for his partner’s advice as one of the best golfers to ever pick up a club.

“It was in the alternate shot, and I just made like an eight-footer for birdie to stay tied in the match. We were in a really good match,” Thomas told The Smylie Show. “So I had 16 tee shot, and it’s this brutal hole.

“It’s this very narrow dog-leg left, and it just gradually dog legs the whole way. And I like to fade the ball off the tee, and there’s this damn tree that’s right off of the tee on the left that’s just right in my window … it’s a big point in the match. I need to get this ball in play.

“I have the greatest iron player on planet earth on my team, but it’s such a long hole, I can’t hit an iron because it’s like a driver/five-iron kind of par four. And I never really ask Tiger anything in terms of layups or whatever it is, and that’s what makes him such a great partner. He’s just like, ‘look, you go play, I’ll go play, I’ll let you know if I need anything’.

TIGER WOODS

“I call Tiger over. He’s like, ‘What?’ I’m like, ‘I mean, is there anything, like, this tee shot’s not very comfortable for me. Like, do you care if you’re further back or…”’

Woods didn’t mince his words in response, bluntly telling Thomas: “I don’t care what I have in, just put me in the f***ing fairway.”

Thomas laughed as he recounted a vintage Woods story, while acknowledging that he didn’t quite get an answer that would help on his shot.

“I was like, ‘Okay, that doesn’t make it any easier, but I appreciate it, partner,’” Thomas added. “So I just teed down a low driver and hit like a little junior draw, and somehow hit the fairway… I’ll never forget that.”

Fortunately for both, they were victorious as a pairing and were able to celebrate winning for their country after some succinct words by the 82-time PGA Tour winner.

Exclusive: US captaincy for tournament will be announced on Tuesday, with Stewart Cink, Davis Love III and Fred Couples in line for role

Tiger Woods is believed to have turned down the opportunity to captain USA at next year’s Ryder Cup.

Stewart Cink VS TIGER WOODS

The PGA of America will announce their appointment in New York on Tuesday, with the likes of Stewart Cink, Fred Couples and Davis Love III in the frame for the role.

The 48-year-old raised doubts at the US PGA two months ago that he would succeed Zach Johnson, citing his time-exhaustive involvement in the peace negotiations between the PGA Tour and the Saudi sovereign wealth fund, which bankrolled LIV.

Luke Donald

It is understood that Woods was prepared to take on the role if the PGA of America – which oversees the US arm of the biennial dust-up – reduced the normal captaincy commitments ahead of the match. But no deal was evidently reached and with the clock ticking, they were forced to look elsewhere. Europe confirmed that Luke Donald was to serve a second term last December.

Cink, the 2009 Open champion, is the most obvious alternative, but with the match taking place at Bethpage, just 15 minutes from Manhattan, they may have gone elsewhere for what they consider to be a bigger name to harness the support of what us expected to be a raucous home crowd.
