At 32-years-old, New Zealand’s Joseph Parker has one of the most impressive resumes in the heavyweight division.

After winning the vacant WBO World Title in a close contest with Andy Ruiz Jr, Parker made two successful defences before losing it in a unification bout with Anthony Joshua. He would suffer another defeat in his next outing against Dillian Whyte.

In a 2020 feature with the Ring Magazine, Parker weighed up his three toughest opponents in Joshua, Whyte and Ruiz. Whilst at that stage he said ‘AJ’ was the best overall and Whyte was the strongest, he says Mexican-American Ruiz hit him the hardest.

“Dillian Whyte did drop me, but with Ruiz, I really felt the sting in his punches. I think it was a left hook he caught me with in our fight that hurt me. From that point on, in the whole fight, I was deaf in one ear.”

Joshua is regarded by most as one of the hardest punchers on the scene but he doesn’t need Parker to tell him about the threat of Ruiz, who served him his first loss back in 2019 via stoppage. ‘AJ’ would comfortable win the rematch on the cards.

Ruiz made a return to the ring this year after a frustrating period of inactivity, scoring a controversial draw with Jarrell Miller in which he suffered a broken hand.

Since those words, Parker has been in the ring with some more heavy hitters. After a bruising stoppage loss to Joe Joyce – the first of his career – he gelled with coach Andy Lee and implemented an impressive a career resurgence that saw him beat both Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang.

The victories leave Parker in as good a position as any of the current contenders. A contracted rematch with Zhang may be next if the Chinese southpaw doesn’t face Martin Bakole. If he does, Parker could be in with the likes of Agit Kabayel or Jarrell Miller.

LOS ANGELES — Jarrell Miller may be fighting Andy Ruiz Jr. on Saturday at the BMO Stadium in Los Angeles but the bruising heavyweight is already looking ahead at future challenges.

The New Yorker is looking to rebound from a 10th-round knockout loss to Daniel Dubois last year, a defeat which he attributes to poor fight management at the time.

As his opponent, Ruiz, returns to the ring after a two-year layoff, both fighters seemingly have a point to prove at the Riyadh Season event which Terence Crawford and Israil Madrimov are headlining.

Speaking to World Boxing News ahead of the heavyweight shoot-out, Miller said he wants a victory so that he can secure a fight he once had before, but never got to complete.

Miller was due to challenge Anthony Joshua for the WBA, WBO, and IBF world heavyweight championships in 2019, but multiple failed drug tests prevented his participation — and the unified title shot was awarded to Ruiz on short notice instead.

REALITY:WHY Former Anthony Joshua rival Jarrell Miller shows CLOWD off insane body transformation ahead of Andy Ruiz Jr fight

“Most definitely” I want the AJ fight, Miller told World Boxing News this week. “Let’s make it happen.”

After Ruiz stepped in to replace Miller, he shook up the combat sports world by dropping Joshua four times en route to a humiliating loss for the hulking Brit. Ruiz, though, has been unable to capture any of the momentum he had after that night as he gained weight, lost the rematch, and has fought just twice in the five years since.

Miller, meanwhile, continues to chase a big bout.

He said: “We’ll see what happens with AJ next and take it from there, but we’re still here, we’re still young, and we’re still competing at a high-level.”

Because of Miller’s drug history — testing positive for both EPO and HGH — there would inevitably be critics who’ll say the 6-foot-4 slugger has done nothing to deserve a shot at someone like Joshua and shouldn’t be rewarded with that kind of payday after testing positive for such performance-enhancing drugs.

UPDATE:Andy Ruiz Jr planning to fight former rival next if he beats Jarrell Miller – but not Anthony Joshua

Former heavyweight champ Andy Ruiz Jr. is returning from a long hiatus to take on Jarrell Miller in Los Angeles tonight.

Both fighters have something to prove in tonight’s match. Ruiz has been out of the fight for nearly two years and is looking to prove himself worthy of still contending for a heavyweight title. Miller, meanwhile, is seeing his first action since suffering his first career loss, a TKO at the hands of Daniel Dubois.

Of course, many of Miller’s victories came before he tested positive for a banned substance in 2019. That positive test actually propelled Ruiz to his heavyweight title win over Anthony Joshua, as Ruiz took Miller’s place in that fight. Ruiz though, has only fought twice in the last four years. His underwhelming wins over Chris Arreola and Luis Ortiz in that time do not inspire much confidence that he can handle someone of Miller’s talent.

Miller – who infamously blew his chance t o fight AnthonyJoshua after his 2019 doping scandal – has earned the nickname Big Baby over the years.

For his last bout against Daniel Dubois in December he weighed 23 STONE.

But in recent pictures circulating online, Miller appears to have dramatically transformed his body.

The controversial American, 36, flexed a trimmer chest and midsection just two weeks out from his bout with Ruiz.

He blamed the failed tests on a tainted supplement and stem cell shots in his elbow.

He then received a contract with Bob Arum’s Top Rank stable but again tested positive for a banned substance.

This time the ex-kickboxer put it down to a SEX PILL and was handed a two-year suspension.

The Mexican-American stunned Joshua, 34, in June 2019 but lost the rematch on points six years later.

He beat Chris Arreola, 43, and Luis Ortiz, 45, but has faced a spell on the sidelines as promoter Eddie Hearn predicted a tough bout with Miller.

Sand and Fog: Anthony Joshua Avenges his Loss to Andy Ruiz, Jr. - Hannibal Boxing

Hearn told Matchroom Boxing: “I actually think this is a really tough fight for Andy Ruiz. It’s going to be all actions

.“Jarrell Miller is always going to be on the front foot, always comes to fight, and Andy is a very sharp counter-puncher as well, but he’s been out of the ring for a long time. “There’s going to be huge support for him in Los Angeles, but he better have hunger in his belly for this fight because otherwise, he’ll get overrun by Jarrell Miller.”
