Eddie Hearn insists ‘only one man can beat’ Oleksandr Usyk after laying waste to Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury and Daniel Dubois

Oleksandr Usyk has barely put a foot wrong during his unblemished 23-0 professional career – but Eddie Hearn believes one man could push him all the way.

The Ukrainian slickster is the current pound-for-pound king of boxing and is one of only three male fighters in the four-belt era to achieve undisputed supremacy in two separate weight classes (alongside Naoya Inoue and Terence Crawford).

The Ukrainian slickster is the current pound-for-pound king of boxing and is one of only three male fighters in the four-belt era to achieve undisputed supremacy in two separate weight classes (alongside Naoya Inoue and Terence Crawford).

But the masterful technician proved his doubters wrong by outclassing the Watford powerhouse in back-to-back bouts.Usyk then laid waste to the fast-rising Daniel Dubois before taking on WBC champion Tyson Fury in May 2024 for the undisputed crown.

Oleksandr Usyk & Eddie Hearn

‘The Cat’ edged their epic inaugural encounter via split decision and subsequently widened the margin in their rematch seven months later.

In between the two fights, Usyk was forced to relinquish the IBF title to Dubois in order to pursue his rematch with Fury.

However, Hearn believes lineal cruiserweight king Jai Opetaia has the best chance of beating him.

“I’m looking down the road, Jai is humble,” Hearn told ESNEWS after Opetaia’s recent blowout of David Nyika.

He’s committed to the cruiserweight division but for me one of the best of all time was Usyk, he became undisputed, moved up and became undisputed at heavyweight.

“The medium focus right now is every belt in the division and the long-term focus is to fight Usyk for the unified heavyweight world championship.

“I believe he is the only fighter who can give Usyk a real fight over the next 12-18 months.”

Opetaia is the consensus best fighter at 200lbs and is currently in possession of the IBF and Ring Magazine titles. He won the belts by dethroning former cruiserweight leader Mairis Briedis in 2022 and has been chasing unification fights to no avail ever since.

The expectation is that he will eventually move up to heavyweight once he has conquered his weight class.

But Usyk, now 38, will likely be retired by the time he steps up.

Eddie Hearn Makes Emphatic Daniel Dubois vs Joseph Parker Prediction: “His Style Causes Problems”

Eddie Hearn has a clear view on how Daniel Dubois is going to fare against Joseph Parker.

Dubois goes into this second defence of his IBF title off the back of an impressive run. In just over a year, he has put together three increasingly impressive knockout performances.

First he stopped American Jarrell Miller in the dying seconds of their 10-round fight, before he overcame the power of Fillip Hrgovic in June, then, best of all, he quickly dispatched former two time world champion Anthony Joshua inside five rounds in September.

Parker is a former WBO champion himself. He is also in a rich vein of form having beaten Zhilei Zhang and Deontay Wilder on points in his last two contests.

Speaking to And Still Boxing, Hearn gave his view that Parker would get the victory.

“I think he wins the fight. I’m kind of like Joseph’s unofficial promoter. He’s a mate of mine and I love him. I think he’s gonna win. I do. I think he’s got the style to beat Dubois

Daniel Dubois vs Joseph Parker.

“Sometimes when you get the big win you get a bit carried away. You see [Daniel] in the ring calling out Usyk and if I’m Joseph I’m just chipping away, working away. It’s a tough fight but I think he can win … I think Parker is in the form of his career and he’s got the style that will really trouble Dubois.”

This fight on February 22 is part of a huge bill out in Saudi Arabia that is topped by a much-anticipated rematch between undisputed light heavyweight ruler Artur Beterbiev and challenger Dmitry Bivol after a close first contest back in October.

Eddie Hearn hands Tyson Fury deadline to reverse retirement and salvage Anthony Joshua fight

Eddie Hearn insists Tyson Fury must reverse his retirement in the ‘next three to four weeks’ to salvage a summer showdown with Anthony Joshua.

Fury hung up his gloves earlier this week after suffering a second consecutive defeat to Oleksandr Usyk last month.

Before dropping the bombshell announcement, Fury was being heavily linked with the long-awaited all-British showdown against Anthony Joshua.

However, those plans have now been put on hold.

Fury’s promoter Frank Warren told talkSPORT on Monday that he believes his client’s career is over.

But Hearn is holding out hope that Fury will change his mind like he has so many times before.

The original plan was for Joshua and Fury to duke it out in the summer of 2025, although they will have to get a move on if that were to still happen.

Hearn told the Daily Mail: “None of us know what Fury will do next, but if we are to see the fight in the summer, he would probably have to come out of retirement in the next three or four weeks.

Anthony Joshua & Tyson Fury

“After that, the summer gets difficult for a fight of this size.

“The future? Hopefully […] I think he will be back, but it’s in his hands.

“For AJ, we have options to pursue and we are looking at them currently.'”

If Fury does stick to his guns then Hearn has named Martin Bakole, Dillian Whyte, and Deontay Wilder as well as the winners of Daniel Dubois vs Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang vs Agit Kabayel as potential backup options for AJ next.

Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh wants to see Joshua vs Wilder next if he can’t make the Fury fight while he’s also eyeing up a blockbuster showdown in Africa with Bakole as well.

“If you want something about the British markets, I want to see Joshua and Wilder now,” he told talkSPORT on Thursday.

“If Tyson is not available why not Joshua and Wilder?”

Speaking about Bakole, he then added: “We finished the deal with Bakole against the Nigerian fighter [Efe] Ajagba.

“We finished that as they must do it because this is mandatory for the IBF.

“Then after that we are open to see Joshua also against Bakole.

“I want to see this fight right. I want to see it but you know where I want to see it. I want to see it in Africa.”

Anthony Joshua next fight if not Tyson Fury or Daniel Dubois? Eddie Hearn names three potential opponents

Promoter Eddie Hearn said Anthony Joshua is likely going to start training later this month ahead of a return to the ring in May or June.

Hearn had hoped Joshua’s 2025 would include a bout, or two, with Tyson Fury, but after Fury announced he retired earlier in the week, Hearn might have to look elsewhere for opponents. That list may now include Martin Bakole, who called out Joshua on social media this week, and Deontay Wilder, the slugger long linked to Joshua who yesterday confirmed his comeback.

“What I said was our two preferred options are Tyson Fury and the winner of [Daniel] Dubois against [Joseph] Parker [on February 22]. But, if Tyson Fury never fights again, and we don’t get the winner of Dubois-Parker, AJ is still going to fight. He’s ready to almost return to camp, he wants to fight in May or June and they asked me for some names,” Hearn told Matchroom Boxing.

“[Martin] Bakole got his back up the other day, a little bit with the call out. There could potentially be a big fight in Africa, I think that’s an unlikely fight. Deontay Wilder is a fight, I think coming off the defeat people would still love to see, if Wilder comes back with a win, looks like he’s scheduled to fight again in February. Dillian Whyte, I don’t know. These are just names I’m plucking out, because AJ will fight.”

Hearn also has not given up on the possibility of Fury-Joshua.

“We will see what happens with Tyson Fury in the meantime,” Hearn added. “I can’t see Mr Fury leaving this fight on the table.”

After defeating Ryan Garcia in their fight last year, Gervonta Davis openly proclaimed himself “the face of boxing”. Not just him, but many people think that he is indeed the face of the sport. Even so, Davis’ knockout technique has evolved into a standard for taking out opponents. So much so that, in a surfaced video online from a corner, a trainer can be heard giving instructions to his fighter to use the Gervonta Davis’ method against his opponent.

Bronx native Peter Dobson squared off against an up-and-coming boxing prospect, Jalil Hackett on July 13th, at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The clip from the fight on the undercard of Jaron Ennis vs. David Avanesyan shows Dobson’s trainer, in between rounds, motivating Dobson to knock out Jalil Hackett.

Gervonta Davis knockout is a thing now

Between rounds, Dobson is seen in his corner, sitting on the stool and preparing for the next round. In the midst of that, his coach can be heard saying to him, “Gervonta. You remember the Gervonta? I want you to Gervonta his a**.” With 28 of his 30 fights ending in knockouts, it’s understandable why any coach would reference him when talking about knocking out opponents. His knockouts serve as a manual on how to end fights decisively.

Despite the motivation provided by his coach, Dobson could not outclass a 21-year-old Jalil Hackett. Dobson lost the bout via unanimous decision. Notably, Hackett was more likely to employ the ‘Tank’ Davis approach. I know you’re wondering, why? Even before he became a professional boxer, Hackett was close to Davis for a considerable amount of time.

Gervonta Davis AND Floyd Mayweather

‘Major’ won the vacant WBA Continental Americas Welterweight title by defeating an older and experienced Peter Dobson. The young boxer from Washington is slowly cementing his status as one of the finest rising boxers in the 147-pound division. He has been under great hands which helped him make a name for himself in boxing. Back in 2019, Hackett was asked to spar with Davis ahead of the latter’s fight against Ricardo Nunez. Hackett was so good that he was then hired as a permanent sparring partner for Davis.

Jaron Ennis VS Terence Crawford

Moreover, with Davis’ influence, Hackett was signed by Mayweather Promotions. The youthful boxer has benefited from the wise counsel of boxing legends like Floyd Mayweather Jr. and ‘Tank’ Davis. He naturally got the opportunity to learn from Davis, but he was also exposed to other accomplished fighters at the Mayweather gym, which helped him polish his craft. Very recently, he left Mayweather Promotions and became a free agent. Soon after he was signed by Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing for a multi-fight deal. With a Matchroom deal set in place, there is no doubt that the rising prospect will appear on numerous big cards in the coming days.

Meanwhile, what do you think about Dobson’s trainer’s remarks in the video? Let us know in the comments below.

Zhilei Zhang knocked out Deontay Wilder in the fifth round of their fight in Riyadh with an explosive right hook that floored his opponent.

Wilder had been knocked off balance by Zhang’s previous blow and then the Chinese heavyweight closed in to finish the job.

It capped off a remarkable night for Frank Warren’s Queensbury promotion in Riyadh, who completed a clean sweep over Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing.

In truth the fight looked as if it would go Zhang’s way all along.

Zhilei Zhang VS Deontay Wilder

He landed a big right hook in the second round as his American opponent struggled.

Turning up the heat in the third round, he subjected Wilder to constant pressure and suppressed the lethal right hand of the Bronze Bomber.

Wilder punched his own chest at the start of the fourth round to try and fire himself up for the contest but couldn’t land many blows.

In the fifth round, he was sent spinning by a right hand from Zhang and crumpled to the floor after a hammer blow from his 41-year-old adversary.

Did Devin Haney make a huge mistake taking up the Ryan Garcia fight? After all, he was knocked down three times in a single night which ultimately led to a Majority Decision loss for ‘The Dream’. The cold and calculated undefeated boxer had no answers for the onslaught that Garcia brought inside the ring. But, the 25-year-old boxer was handed a saving grace.

RYAN GARCIA VS DEVIN HANEY AND CLARESSA SHIELDS

JUST IN: Gervonta Davis’ trainer has no fear and challenges Floyd Mayweather to a fight against Tank…

The New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) found Garcia guilty of taking the banned substance Ostarine, and declared his win against Haney a ‘no contest’Alas, ‘the Dream was vindicated! But the damage was already done. The fight made him lose face in the industry and damaged the possibility of securing potentially lucrative fights. Remember how Haney’s promoter, Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing, decided to not bid for the fight against his mandatory challenger Sandor Martin? However, throughout the entire fiasco and online slander, there was one woman who stood by Haney’s side, Claressa Shields!

Off late, Shields came down hard against a fan on social media who claimed that ‘King Ry’s’ win against Devin Haney was legitimate. But an obvious fallacy in the person’s logic had to be called out. Garcia coming in over the weight limit for the fight was not the issue, but something glaringly obvious was.

Ryan Garcia VS Devin Haney

An internet user who goes by the name of @NukeUndisputed on X, wanted to make a case for how having a significant weight advantage in the fight did not guarantee a victory. In light of the matter being discussed, Ryan Garcia was roped in. You might remember how Garcia came in at 143.2lbs, 3.2lbs above the required weight limit. Taking this example as a case study, he went on to cite a few recent instances where a boxer with a significant weight advantage over his opponent lost. Among them, Ryan Garcia’s brother Sean Garcia who got stopped by Amado Vargas in the sixth round of a scheduled eight-round bout, also got a mention.

“Ryan Garcia’s younger brother Sean Garcia copied Ryan’s plan of missing weight by 3lbs against Armando Vargas and just got stopped. Gio Cabrera missed weight by 2lbs and got stopped by William Zepeda. Danny Jacobs came in 2lbs over Shane Mosley Jr. and got stopped. The idea that weight is why Devin Haney lost to Ryan Garcia when Devin is supposed to be superiorly “skilled” is incorrect. He lost because he wasn’t good enough,” the user wrote on X.

CLaressa Shields

But Shields pointed out one obvious flaw in his long X post. Unlike Ryan Garcia, other fighters weren’t on PEDs. “Hahaha he lost cause Ryan was on PEDs wtf is wrong with you,” the 2-time undisputed champion wrote on X.

Garcia’s A-sample as well as B-sample before the fight against Devin Haney came back positive. Subsequently, Garcia was given a one-year suspension, forfeiture of his million official contract purse, and a win against Haney overturned, as punishment by NYSAC for failing the drug tests. The problem was only compounded by the recent expulsion order from the WBC due to his recent Islamophobic and racist remarks.

Meanwhile, the former junior-middleweight champion, tired of his social antics, urged ‘King Ry’ to take some accountability for his actions.

Go look in the mirror!

Safe to say that Ryan Garcia is down in the dumps. But, despite his long list of penalizations, he seems to be attacking anybody who doesn’t agree with his narrative. Sometimes, his attacks are downright crass. Such was the case when Shields was subjected to nasty DMs filled with crude remarks from Ryan Garcia. “I’m saying you said my mom don’t got cancer crack head. Are you f*king an idiot. Dumb a*s crack head read b*tch. Screenshot b*tch.” One of Garcia’s DMs read.

In the mood to give an appropriate reality check to Garcia, Shields wrote on X, “Man @RyanGarcia you are a piece of shit! You use your platform to lie and mislead the people. It’s sad. And now that your roller coaster is going down you are pointing the finger at everyone else! Go look in the mirror! You are the problem! You are The reason. Stop using…”

Is ‘GWOAT’ justified in her actions to torch Garcia over his long list of misfortunes? Or does Garcia deserve every bit of criticism he has been getting? Let us know in the comment section below.
