Devin Haney Agrees To Fight Teofimo Lopez Under One Condition: “Prove You’re The Best”

Devin Haney versus Teofimo Lopez is one of the best super-lightweight match-ups in the sport.

The pair missed out on a fight down at lightweight, with Lopez losing his unified titles in a shock defeat to George Kambosos Jr before Haney faced the Aussie star to become undisputed.

Both men moved up in weight to the 140 pounds ranks. Lopez won the WBO title from Josh Taylor with a statement performance while Haney went the WBC route, soundly beating Regis Prograis for the belt. Lopez still holds his belt. Haney is Champion in Recess.

Despite it now not being for a unification, the fight has been talked up for years. Haney’s coach and father, Bill, recently took to social media to reveal how it will get made: signing up to Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency testing.

“If it’s REAL beef, Teofimo Lopez stop barking and step up. Join VADA and show the world you’re clean and ready to fight Devin Haney. No excuses. No shortcuts. Champions prove they’re the best.”

Lopez responding saying he was willing.

But I’m not in London! You guys are too cool. My alternative is to make a video of today’s time and date so I can get tested for all the same things Devin is getting. That good? (ABP) testing, to be exact, Mr. 2023 Manager Of The Year.”

Haney has said he will make his return in March – almost one year on from his fight with Ryan Garcia, initially a loss but subsequently a no contest due to doping violations on Garcia’s part and likely the driving reason behind Bill’s demand. His son recently enrolled in year-round VADA testing after bringing legal act.

Lopez has promised fans ‘something huge’ but seems more concerned with a contractual dispution to Garciae with his promoter, Top Rank. He last fought in June 2024, a points win over Steve Claggett.

Devin Haney set for ring return in March, ‘likely’ against Adrien Broner

The next fight of Devin Haney has been set for March 25. Bay Area’s former two-division boxing world champion steps through the ropes for the first time since facing Ryan Garcia.

Haney and Garcia met last April in Brooklyn, where the latter took a decision victory on the night, dropping his opponent three times over the course of the fight. Las Vegas-based former undisputed lightweight champion Haney didn’t lose his WBC 140-pound belt, as Garcia missed weight and was ineligible to take the title.

In June, the result was overturned to a no-contest due to a failed drug test by the Victorville, California native, Garcia. The same month, the San Francisco native Haney was declared “Champion in Recess.”

Devin Haney (31-0, 15 KOs, 1 NC) posted on X, “March… I’m back.” Additionally, Boxing News 24 reported that BLK Prime announced, in what appears to be a now-deleted post, that the fight was to be held on March 25. The location and venue are yet to be determined.

Meanwhile, Ray Jackson reported (also via post on X) that Adrien Broner was “likely” Haney’s next rival. The 35-year-old former multi-division champion of Cincinnati, Ohio dropped a unanimous decision against Blair Cobbs last June, which snapped his two-fight winning streak.

Ryan Garcia Shares Encrypted Messages On His Social Media Accounts – Hitting Out At Devin Haney And Dad

Ryan Garcia (born August 8, 1998) is an American professional fighter. He held the World Boxing Council (WBC) interim lightweight crown in 2021.

The American boxing icon Ryan Garcia posted AI- generated pictures of him and a baby. The baby was a version of his last rival Devin Haney.

In the description of the post, ‘KingRy’ mentioned Haney’s lawsuit against him. Furthermore, he referred to ‘The Dream’ his ‘son’.

He also cropped in Devin’s dad – Bill Haney in the conversation. He disparaged him for not halting their bout.

love my son, don’t like how he’s suing me this Christmas but it’s all good, I guess I have to take the higher road and keep the Christmas cheer. No left hooks underneath the tree, don’t worry my son. And to grandpa Bill (Haney), you don’t get anything this year for not stopping the fight. Ended up on the naughty list,” read the post on Instagram.

Devin Haney is still suffering from the shadows of Ryan Garcia for reasons emanating away from the ring. It is apparent that Haney has not phased out the effect of his last fight with Garcia in April.  However, the bout was announced a ‘no contest’ after positive test of the Mexican cam American boxer.

Ryan Garcia

Haney has some pending issues unresolved. Additional to what occurred in the fight and subsequent trash talk between the two, Garcia has not seized from attacking Haney alongside his dad Bill. They both accused him of breach of contract and they seeking compensation from Garcia totaling to $7.5 million.

After locking horns in April for the WBC super-light weight crown, KingRy weighed overweight by 3.2 pounds, discrediting him from winning the belt.

On the bout night, Ryan overpowered Haney and attained a majority decision win. Subsequently, the boxer tested positive for prohibited substances, and thus the outcome was converted to a no-contest.

In September this year, Haney accused Garcia, hence, filing a lawsuit against him. He is claiming reward on various accounts, entailing fraud as well as breach of contract.

Currently, Haney is focusing on his preparation with Nate Jones, who trained Floyd Mayweather. He could face off Alberto Puello, Liam Paro, or even Ryan Garcia in his next bout.

Ryan Garcia (24-1,20 KOs), on the other hand, was supposed to fight Rukiya Anpo on 30th December boxing exhibition. However, he got a wrist injury during training, thus, deferring the fight to a later date.

‘I’ve been eagerly preparing for my upcoming exhibition fight in Japan, training hard in Dallas over the past several weeks,” said Garcia in a press release statement.

Unfortunately, I sustained a hand injury during training and returned to Los Angeles to be seen by the doctor,” he added.

Gervonta Davis versus Shakur Stevenson is one of the most sought-after fights in the sport.

The all-American clash would see two world titles and two undefeated records on the line, pitting Stevenson’s elite defence and movement against ‘Tank’s calculated stalking and devastating power.

Both men benefitted from Devin Haney relinquishing his lightweight titles, as Stevenson picked up the vacant WBC belt with a win over Edwin De Los Santos and Davis was elevated to WBA Champion, staging a knockout first defence against Frank Martin recently.

The pair have assured fans they will meet in the ring, and two-time welterweight world champion Shawn Porter looked ahead to that day on his podcast.

“[Tank] is the favourite right now. It’s really hard to see him losing to anybody. Y’all hate me if y’all want to but I have no clue what that fight gonna look like. It’s the greatest fight to be made in the sport right now.

Gervonta Davis vs Shakur Stevenson

Don’t be so one-sided either way on this fight man, it’s a true 50/50… if anything 55/45 [for Tank] right now. [Shakur] can’t afford to [make the fight boring]. Tank is gonna play to the crowd, the crowd is gonna be on his side, and that’s gonna be a hard thing to get away from.”

Like many in-demand fights in boxing, fans will have to wait for it to marinate a while longer as Davis enters talks with IBF Champion Vasiliy Lomachenko.

In the meantime, Stevenson has said he is open to facing number one contender William Zepeda.

Did Devin Haney make a huge mistake taking up the Ryan Garcia fight? After all, he was knocked down three times in a single night which ultimately led to a Majority Decision loss for ‘The Dream’. The cold and calculated undefeated boxer had no answers for the onslaught that Garcia brought inside the ring. But, the 25-year-old boxer was handed a saving grace.

The New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) found Garcia guilty of taking the banned substance Ostarine, and declared his win against Haney a ‘no contest’Alas, ‘the Dream was vindicated! But the damage was already done. The fight made him lose face in the industry and damaged the possibility of securing potentially lucrative fights. Remember how Haney’s promoter, Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing, decided to not bid for the fight against his mandatory challenger Sandor Martin? However, throughout the entire fiasco and online slander, there was one woman who stood by Haney’s side, Claressa Shields!

Off late, Shields came down hard against a fan on social media who claimed that ‘King Ry’s’ win against Devin Haney was legitimate. But an obvious fallacy in the person’s logic had to be called out. Garcia coming in over the weight limit for the fight was not the issue, but something glaringly obvious was.

Ryan Garcia VS Devin Haney

An internet user who goes by the name of @NukeUndisputed on X, wanted to make a case for how having a significant weight advantage in the fight did not guarantee a victory. In light of the matter being discussed, Ryan Garcia was roped in. You might remember how Garcia came in at 143.2lbs, 3.2lbs above the required weight limit. Taking this example as a case study, he went on to cite a few recent instances where a boxer with a significant weight advantage over his opponent lost. Among them, Ryan Garcia’s brother Sean Garcia who got stopped by Amado Vargas in the sixth round of a scheduled eight-round bout, also got a mention.

“Ryan Garcia’s younger brother Sean Garcia copied Ryan’s plan of missing weight by 3lbs against Armando Vargas and just got stopped. Gio Cabrera missed weight by 2lbs and got stopped by William Zepeda. Danny Jacobs came in 2lbs over Shane Mosley Jr. and got stopped. The idea that weight is why Devin Haney lost to Ryan Garcia when Devin is supposed to be superiorly “skilled” is incorrect. He lost because he wasn’t good enough,” the user wrote on X.

CLaressa Shields

But Shields pointed out one obvious flaw in his long X post. Unlike Ryan Garcia, other fighters weren’t on PEDs. “Hahaha he lost cause Ryan was on PEDs wtf is wrong with you,” the 2-time undisputed champion wrote on X.

Garcia’s A-sample as well as B-sample before the fight against Devin Haney came back positive. Subsequently, Garcia was given a one-year suspension, forfeiture of his million official contract purse, and a win against Haney overturned, as punishment by NYSAC for failing the drug tests. The problem was only compounded by the recent expulsion order from the WBC due to his recent Islamophobic and racist remarks.

Meanwhile, the former junior-middleweight champion, tired of his social antics, urged ‘King Ry’ to take some accountability for his actions.

Go look in the mirror!

Safe to say that Ryan Garcia is down in the dumps. But, despite his long list of penalizations, he seems to be attacking anybody who doesn’t agree with his narrative. Sometimes, his attacks are downright crass. Such was the case when Shields was subjected to nasty DMs filled with crude remarks from Ryan Garcia. “I’m saying you said my mom don’t got cancer crack head. Are you f*king an idiot. Dumb a*s crack head read b*tch. Screenshot b*tch.” One of Garcia’s DMs read.

In the mood to give an appropriate reality check to Garcia, Shields wrote on X, “Man @RyanGarcia you are a piece of shit! You use your platform to lie and mislead the people. It’s sad. And now that your roller coaster is going down you are pointing the finger at everyone else! Go look in the mirror! You are the problem! You are The reason. Stop using…”

Is ‘GWOAT’ justified in her actions to torch Garcia over his long list of misfortunes? Or does Garcia deserve every bit of criticism he has been getting? Let us know in the comment section below.

Claressa Shields v Ryan Garcia

Garcia, 25, and Shields, 29, have been at loggerheads since she favored Devin Haney as the two childhood rivals tussled over the ostarine saga. The American boxer has openly opened fire on Garcia, as she blasted him for cheating. But she expected it the least when Garcia sent her derogatory messages, which she shared on her X handle. Garcia, at 24-1, went on a rampage and insulted Shields, as he wrote, “I’m saying you said my mom don’t got cancer crack head. Are you f*king an idiot. Dumb a*s crack head read b*tch. Screenshot b*tch.”

After the 14-0 record holder shared the shocking conversation on X, Garcia candidly responded to her claim and accepted, “That’s all me.”

The two boxers hadn’t found a middle ground in these months, with taunts and accusations flying across their social media handles. In addition, they didn’t let any opportunity slide by to make a jibe at each other. But the friction between them is reaching a tipping point, as the Flint native blasted Garcia and called him a “piece of sh*t.” What else did she say?

Claressa Shields labels Ryan Garcia as “the problem”

After Garcia labeled Shields as “anti-humans” and slandered her, the latter penned a lengthy note, calling out the Victorville native. The light middleweight champion pointed out that Garcia was using the platform to mislead people. She penned, “Man @RyanGarcia you are a piece of sh*t! You use your platform to lie and mislead the people. It’s sad.”

The undisputed champion added, “And now that your roller coaster is going down you are pointing the finger at everyone else! Go look in the mirror! You are the problem! You are The reason. Stop using God to make excuses for you being a terrible person! The jig is up! GO GET HELP!!”

Notably, Shields has also floated the idea of a man-vs.-woman boxing match against Garcia to settle their beef once and for all. However, it might not materialize anytime soon because Garcia has to serve a year-long ban after NYSAC slapped him with a year ban, along with a fine and a forfeit of the guaranteed purse.
