Martin Bakole Makes His Daniel Dubois vs Joseph Parker Prediction After Sparring Both

Martin Bakole is an imposing heavyweight who has shared the ring with both Joseph Parker and Daniel Dubois.

Bakole has long been referring to himself as ‘the most avoided heavyweight on the planet’ and there is some evidence to back that up. He has failed to land big fights despite an impressive run of victories in recent years. He handed Tony Yoka his first defeat, has stopped the likes of Carlos Takam and most recently demolished the previously unbeaten knockout merchant Jared Anderson.

With the help of an IBF order, he is not set to face Efe Ajagba in order to determine the mandatory challenger for the world title, currently held by Dubois.

Bakole therefore has a keen eye on the Brit’s upcoming defence against former WBO champion Parker on February 22. Both men are in top form right now. Dubois has stopped Jarrell Miller, Fillip Hrgovic and Anthony Joshua in his last three contests, while Parker is coming off points wins over Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang.

Speaking to Eze Talks Sports, Bakole was asked to make his prediction having sparred several rounds with both men and making huge claims that he made Dubois ‘quit’ in one of those sessions. As such, he is backing Parker for the upset.

“I think Parker will win the fight, that’s my opinion.”

Bakole confirmed that he wants the winner after he beats Ajagba, but given that an undisputed fight with Oleksandr Usyk could be on the table for either Dubois or Parker, the Congolese heavyweight might again be left out in the cold, though he has been named as a potential opponent for Anthony Joshua.

Daniel Dubois Didn’t Hesitate When Asked If Anthony Joshua Should Now Retire

Daniel Dubois is still riding high off his victory over Anthony Joshua.

Dubois was a much-hyped young heavyweight contender who packed a serious punch. His career was derailed early on however by taking a loss to Joe Joyce. He was forced to take a knee due to damage to his eye and was counted out, which meant many onlookers questioned

He has roared back since then and in the last year in particular has shown his courage and skill by stopping Jarrell Miller in late December 2023, then knocking out the tough Fillip Hrgovic in June.

Most recently, he once again showed his power by knocking down Joshua and then stopping the former two-time world champion inside five rounds back in September at Wembley Stadium in front of a record crowd.

Speaking to Ring Magazine, Dubois was asked what he would do if he were now in Joshua’s position.

Joshua has remained quiet on this front, but many believed he was hoping to have a legacy-defining contest with Tyson Fury, but that took a big blow when Fury announced this week he is retiring from the sport.

Anthony Joshua / Daniel Dubois

Dubois meanwhile has his hands full with a second defence of his IBF crown when he takes on former WBO champion Joseph Parker on February 22. Parker is also on a hot run right now having beaten Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang, both on points, in his last two outings.

It seems likely that the winner will get a shot at undisputed against current three-belt ruler Oleksandr Usyk.

Dubois-Parker news conference overshadowed by Fury retirement

Daniel Dubois and Joseph Parker became a sideshow at their own news conference after fellow heavyweight Tyson Fury announced his second retirement from boxing earlier on Monday.

Briton Dubois will defend his IBF world title against New Zealand’s Parker on 22 February in Saudi Arabia, with the main event a rematch between light-heavyweight rivals Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol.

The heavyweight pair tried their utmost to promote their own fight, and one of the most talent-laden cards of recent times, but were continuously asked to field questions about former world champion Fury.

“If Tyson is ready to retire, then he should hang up his gloves and enjoy his life. He’s achieved, he’s content,” Parker said of his friend and sparring partner.

Dubois, speaking to BBC Sport in London, questioned whether Fury – who announced his retirement in April 2022 but returned six months later – will stay retired.

“He might come back. You never know with Fury. Either way, he’s a legend,” the 27-year-old said.

The attention diverted back to next month’s card as Dubois and Parker shared sometimes awkward exchanges at the top table.

Daniel Dubois

Parker, 33, questioned why Dubois entered the ring to call out fellow champion Oleksandr Usyk after the latter’s win over Fury in December.

“It’s all about making noise. This is show business. That’s what I want next. First I want to get through this guy,” Dubois replied, promising a “demolition job” on Parker.

‘I’ll teach you a few things’ – Dubois tells Parker

Greenwich’s Dubois made a successful first defence of his IBF title by dismantling Anthony Joshua in five rounds at Wembley Stadium in September.

Addressing Fury’s retirement, his promoter Frank Warren said: “Daniel is the next Brit on the block coming though. He’s the guy.”

Dubois is eyeing a rematch with Usyk after being stopped by the Ukrainian in August 2023.

“You might be looking too far ahead,” Parker warned him.

Dubois and Parker shared pleasantries when they crossed paths in a hotel lobby in Riyadh last month but there was an air of tension this time.

“I’ve got my mind firmly set on you,” Dubois said.

“It better be,” Parker, who held the WBO title between 2016 and 2018, replied.

Despite three losses in a 38-fight career, Parker has revived his career with a four-fight winning streak, including solid victories over Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang.

“I’ve been boxing for a while and I feel like I’ve only just started,” the Auckland fighter added.

Dubois’ sometimes awkward demeanour does not necessarily lend to trash talk, yet he drew a laugh as he quipped: “I’ll teach you a few things in there. A few new skills.”

Daniel Dubois Is Certain Who Wins Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury Fight: “He Should Retire

Both fighters are coming off defeats, leaving them at a cross-roads and forced to make important decisions about their futures in the sport.

Fury suffered the second successive defeat of his career when he was beaten by Oleksandr Usyk once again on December 21. The heavyweight stars clashed for the second time after their first meeting in May, with ‘The Gypsy King’ falling short once again, although many felt the rematch was a lot closer than their initial showdown.

‘AJ’ experienced defeat for the fourth time in his career when he was knocked out by IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois last September, which came as a shock to the boxing world with many predicting a routine outing for the two-time world champion.

With both men now forced to decide their next steps, many fans and pundits have called for the British heavyweight icons to finally face each other in what could be one of the biggest fights in British boxing history.

Speaking to Seconds Out, Dubois was asked to give his prediction on who he thinks would win between his former opponent ‘AJ’ and stablemate Fury.

Anthony Joshua

Dynamite’ did however follow up this prediction by claiming he thinks the 36-year-old from Morecambe should maybe consider walking away from the sport.

“He’s had a great career. It’s time for him to call it a day now.”The boxing world is eagerly awaiting news of a potential showdown between Joshua and Fury, with news on their respective futures expected to come very soon.

Chris Eubank Jr Is Absolutely Certain How Usyk vs Dubois Rematch Goes: “If He Fights Like That”

Daniel Dubois is keen to run it back with Oleksandr Usyk.

The pair first met in August of 2023 in Poland, with Usyk defending his unified heavyweight world titles.

Though he outboxed Dubois for large periods of the fight, scoring a knockdown in the eighth and stoppage in the ninth, the Brit’s side have held on to the low blow that put the Ukrainian down in the fifth as a claim to winning the fight, believing the shot to have been legal.

Since then, Usyk became undisputed with a win over Tyson Fury and, to honour the rematch, vacated the IBF belt, which was awarded to Dubois. The young Brit defended his new title with a fifth round knockout over Anthony Joshua.

It was after that performance that Chris Eubank Jr told Mail Sport Boxing that the younger man could beat Usyk now.

“With that type of performance, I think he could [beat Usyk]. I didn’t see that Dubois against Usyk. If that Dubois fought Usyk then there would’ve been a different outcome.”

Daniel Dubois

After Usyk’s second win over Fury, Dubois promptly entered the ring to call for a rematch after being ‘robbed’ in Poland. He was criticised not only for taking the spotlight but also overlooking Joseph Parker, who he faces on February 22 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Should ‘DDD’ come through former champ Parker as he clearly expects to, Usyk did verbally agree to run it back – a chance to become twice undisputed in the division. Many, though, feel he should retire on top.

Usyk Didn’t Hesitate When Asked If Anthony Joshua Can Ever Beat Dubois: “There’s One Problem”

Oleksandr Usyk has shared the ring with both Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois, and watched from ringside as the latter knocked out the former at Wembley Stadium.

Dubois, though he lost to Usyk in a bid for the unified heavyweight titles, later picked up a belt when the Ukrainian vacated. His first defence was against two-time champion Anthony Joshua, who was the man Usyk won the titles from in the first place.

Dubois steamrolled Joshua in the first round, knocking him down and thus dictating how the fight would go thereafter. He dropped the favourite twice more on his way to a fifth round stoppage and career-best performance.

Though the 27-year-old looked like he wouldn’t be denied a

gainst anybody that night, some feel that Joshua looked off from the ring walk. That may include Usyk, who, in a recent interview with Mail Sport Boxing, backed the best ‘AJ’ to beat the best Dubois.

Speaking to Boxing King Media post-fight, Usyk had already pinpointed exactly why ‘AJ’ was making himself vulnerable to Dubois’ power punches.

Anthony Joshua vs Daniel Dubois

“I’m not shocked because this is boxing. Daniel Dubois today was better. Anthony had one problem. Because this position [leans back with feet planted], it’s dangerous. If you want to, you step back like this [takes one foot back], not like this [repeats lean] because this is dangerous. We saw.”

Dubois is just as likely now to rematch Usyk as he is Joshua, having stepped into the ring to call out the Ukrainian after his most recent victory over Tyson Fury.

Heavyweight ‘Obliterated’ Daniel Dubois In Sparring Before ‘Breaking His Nose And Making Him Quit’

Daniel Dubois has a long line of top contenders looking for a shot at his IBF Heavyweight World Title.

The 27-year-old Brit was one of the division’s success stories in 2024, entering the year with a win over Jarrell Miller and building on that by defeating Filip Hrgovic for the interim belt. He was then upgraded to full champion when Oleksandr Usyk vacated the title.

To legitimise his status as one of the best on the scene, Dubois knocked out Anthony Joshua in five rounds for his first defence.

He now faces Joseph Parker on February 22 and then will likely be called to fight a mandatory challenger. That just may be one Martin Bakole, but trainer Billy Nelson told Seconds Out that the champ will avoid his charge due to a much-discussed past sparring session.

“Usyk will not fight Martin and it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if Daniel vacated rather than fight Martin as well. They’ve been in the ring with each other before. Martin will stop Usyk and he’ll obliterate Daniel Dubois.

Daniel Dubois

Martin wasn’t fully fit when he sparred Daniel, about 70% fit, and schooled him. Stopped him, made him quit and broke his nose. It’s fact. Martin’s already told people what happened. I was there. Barry McGuigan was there. I’m not telling lies.

And he’s also stopped Usyk as he’s told you before, albeit I wasn’t there. But why would he come out publicly, live on Sky Sports, and say that he stopped Usyk if he didn’t? Either way, what a fantastic fight that would be. Usyk’s number one in the world for a reason.”

Dubois’ promoter Frank Warren strongly denies the broken nose claim.

Bakole – who has been criticised by some for revealing sparring details – scored a statement stoppage of rising star Jared Anderson in August. He has now been ordered to fight a final eliminator against Efe Ajagba to determine the number on contender for Dubois.

Zhilei Zhang Didn’t Hesitate When Asked If Joseph Parker Will Beat Daniel Dubois To Win World Title

Dubois beat Jarrell Miller and Filip Hrgovic to become interim champion before being elevated to full titlist when the belt was vacated by Oleksandr Usyk. His first defence was a huge statement – a fifth round knockout of Anthony Joshua.

Another form man in the division is ex champ Parker, who has beaten both Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang in his most recent outings.

Asked by Seconds Out who wins, Zhang – who put Parker down twice but lost on points – backed against his former opponent in favour of the 27-year-old Brit.

“My personal opinion is Dubois, I think he will get the victory.”

In a separate interview with Box Nation, ‘Big Bang’ said he has ‘a gut feeling’ Dubois will retain his belt.

“I like both fighters. I respect both fighters. But somewhere in my gut feeling is telling me that Dubois is doing to win this one. I admire his style. I like how he approaches fights. I like Parker as well but subconsciously I believe Dubois is going to win it.”

Zhang returns on the undercard in a high stakes heavyweight bout of his own against Agit Kabayel.

Dubois is already making plans for the future having called out Usyk for an undisputed contest and rematch. The Ukrainian recently beat Tyson Fury for the second time to retain his unified titles. Many in the sport feel Dubois was both disrespectful and naive to mention the fight ahead of a stern test in Parker.

Heavyweight Rival Slams Daniel Dubois Antics At Usyk vs Fury Fight Night: “He’s Moving Mad

Not everyone was impressed with Daniel Dubois entering the ring to call out Oleksandr Usyk after the Ukrainian beat Tyson Fury for a second time,

The rematch in Saudi Arabia saw Usyk once again assert his authority at the very top of the heavyweight tree. Allthree judges on December 21 scored the contest 116-112 to the Ukrainian to compete back-to-back victories over ‘The Gypsy King.’

The first fight in May saw him become the undisputed world heavyweight champion on top of being a former undisputed cruiserweight star. Since then, Usyk had to vacate the IBF belt in order to honour the second match with Fury, and it was Dubois who was elevated to champion with that organisation after beating Fillip Hrgovic.

He then defended the belt against fellow Brit Anthony Joshua back in September and will again defend it in February against former world champion Joseph Parker.

Daniel Dubois

With that contest already locked in, it was a surprise for many to see Dubois in the ring and trying to goad Usyk into a second fight after being stopped the first time the pair met.

“Dubois is moving mad. He’s got Joseph Parker to think about. He’s moving mad. He’s lost it. Joseph Parker is not an easy fight. It’s kind of mad cause you’ve got a big dangerous fight coming up, it doesn’t make sense. Listen, right now Dubois is confident and he doesn’t care, he’s moving mad.”

That’s how guys lose, they overlook people towards bigger fights. Joseph Parker is no slouch, he’s got better in the last few years, he’s improved.”

The fight against Parker is part of a huge card that is topped by the light heavyweight rematch between undisputed champion Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol.

How heavyweight division is shaping up – and fights we want to see

Oleksandr Usyk confirmed his status as the best heavyweight on the planet by beating Tyson Fury on points in their rematch.

The win sets up an intriguing selection of possible fights in 2025 as well as raising questions about the future of some of boxing’s biggest stars.

Will we finally get Fury v Anthony Joshua? Will Daniel Dubois get his shot at revenge against Usyk? Which fights are happening and which are possible?

BBC Sport analyses the heavyweight fight scene.

Which fights do we know are happening?

The next heavyweight world title fight is Dubois’ IBF defence against Joseph Parker on 22 February. That bout will probably have a huge bearing on what fights are next for the biggest stars.

On that undercard is another intriguing heavyweight clash between China’s Zhilei Zhang and undefeated German Agit Kabayel – an encounter which should tell us a lot about the latter’s capabilities at world level.

Meanwhile, veteran Derek Chisora faces Otto Wallin in Manchester on 8 February.

Most of the other heavyweight contenders do not currently have fights booked, including unbeaten British champion Fabio Wardley.

Could Usyk really return to cruiserweight?

Usyk’s next fight will largely depend on what happens between Dubois and Parker.

The two-weight undisputed champion has teased a move back down to cruiserweight, but that seems more a personal desire rather than something which makes the most financial sense.

Dubois will consider himself the top contender and is desperate to have another crack at Usyk after his loss to the Ukrainian in 2023 was marred by a tight call on a low blow.

Daniel Dubois

Should Dubois beat Parker, a fight with Usyk could happen in the summer of 2025.

Were Parker to win, Dubois might demand a rematch or perhaps even Joshua would emerge as a potential contender considering he beat Parker in 2018.

And what about retirement for 37-year-old Usyk?

Speaking on the 5 Live Boxing with Steve Bunce podcast, Anthony Crolla says Usyk has already achieved “immortality” in boxing.

“He should have put his gloves in the middle of the ring [after beating Fury] and walked away on a massive high,” Crolla said.

“I think when [Usyk’s] manager spoke, he seemed certain [Usyk] wouldn’t be retiring.

“I think we’ll see him fighting next year. If he does and Usyk fights Dubois again, he’s expected to win when he’s already stopped him but I think that’s a far harder fight this time.”

Retirement or continue – Fury’s big decision

Fury, 36, sees himself at a crossroads in his career. He could retire or opt to pursue an all-British bout against long-time rival Joshua.

Bunce was at ringside for Saturday’s rematch against Usyk and believes Fury will continue fighting.

‘The Gypsy King’ has retired a few times before in his career, announcing he was finished with the sport in April 2022 only to reverse that decision a few months later.

“We might be closer than ever to seeing him walking away for good,” Bunce said of Fury.

“I really don’t want to see him coming back at 38 in 18 months’ time. If he’s going to walk away, I want to see him go forever.”

Joshua seems the obvious fight and – now both men are nursing defeats and without world titles – it could be a perfect opportunity for them to finally face off in the ring.

Who is the top contender from the next generation?

This is the big question. Dubois’ profile has exploded since he stopped Joshua in September. At 27, he is one of the youngest elite heavyweights.

He is younger than almost every one of his direct rivals including Fury, Usyk and Parker. One man who is younger than him is another Briton, Moses Itauma.

The 19-year-old stopped Demsey McKean in one round on Saturday in a hugely impressive performance against a man who had competed in over 100 more rounds and 14 more fights than him.

Itauma turns 20 on 28 December and, after 25-year-old Johnny Fisher struggled against Dave Allen, has emerged as the next big heavyweight hope.

There are others who will believe they can put their names in the mix including Scotland-based Congolese heavyweight Martin Bakole, unbeaten Australian Justis Huni and undefeated Irishman Thomas Carty.

Another contender worth mentioning is Lawrence Okolie, 31, the former cruiserweight world champion who announced himself at heavyweight with a one-round KO earlier this month.
