Mike Tyson Names The One Heavyweight Whose Power ‘He Could Never Match’

Mike Tyson is seen as one of the most powerful heavyweights the division has ever seen.

Tyson was known as ‘The Baddest Man On The Planet’ throughout his career, partly due to his ferocious power and lightning quick speed.

He won his first 19 professional fights by knockout, 12 of them inside the very first round, leading to him becoming the youngest world heavyweight champion in history at the age of 20 years, 4 months and 22 days.

Tyson reigned as undisputed champion from 1987 to 1990, and ended his career with 44 of his 50 victories coming by knockout, showing just how powerful he was.

While that may be the case, ‘Iron Mike’ feels there is one other heavyweight that he couldn’t match when it comes to power, telling FightCamp that the legendary George Foreman takes that accolade.

“I can’t match somebody’s power who’s that big with that much mass. The only thing that allowed me to be exciting was because I threw faster than the other guys.”

Foreman was a two-time world heavyweight champion, with his first reign coming when he claimed a spectacular second round knockout of Joe Frazier in 1973.

After losing his titles to Muhammad Ali in the iconic ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ in 1974, Foreman then retired in 1977, but came back after a 10-year absence in an attempt to once again claim world honours.

He did just that when he became the oldest world heavyweight champion in history in 1994, knocking out Michael Moorer in round 10 to show that his huge power was still on display. Foreman retired with a record of 76-5, with 68 of those victories coming by knockout.

One man who took on and beat both Tyson and Foreman was Evander Holyfield, and ‘The Real Deal’ has revealed the difference between their power.

Usyk Summed Up Deontay Wilder’s Chances Of Ever Beating Anthony Joshua In Just 1 Word

Anthony Joshua versus Deontay Wilder is in danger of being the match-up that got away in this heavyweight era.

The two big punchers could have, at one stage, faced off for the undisputed crown, but failed talks and different paths put paid to that and both men would lost their belts.

Joshua was first upset by Andy Ruiz Jr and, though he won the unified titles back in the rematch, Wilder was then embroiled in a trilogy with Tyson Fury that he would come out relieved of his WBC belt.

‘AJ’ then lost again to Oleksandr Usyk and couldn’t reverse the result in a return fight. The lack of belts seemed to then make talks easier with his American rival, as well as the introduction of Riyadh Season and its deep pockets, and the pair were put on a collision course, fighting on the same card against different opponents with wins setting up the clash.

Joshua did his part, beating Otto Wallin by fifth round stoppage, but Wilder was upset over the distance by Joseph Parker. The Brit would instead face and knockout Francis Ngannou. Wilder again tried to build back by facing giant Chinese southpaw Zhilei Zhang. He was stopped inside five leaving not just the ‘AJ’ fight on the ropes, but his career entire.

Usyk, having shared the ring with the Brit for 24 rounds, made a prediction back in 2023 for if the pair of knockout artists were to face off at their best. He gave his former foe a chance, but leaned ‘60%’ to Wilder.

Anthony Joshua

“It would’ve been a phenomenal match. Wilder’s unique if he clips, one is unable to fight back. I’m going with Wilder on 60% for the contest. He’s a puncher and Joshua could be set on. Deontay’s able to send someone flying when he touches them. They usually have the flight.”

Joshua was recently stopped by now IBF Champion Daniel Dubois, once again opening the door to the fight after Wilder announced he will not retire. However, ‘AJ’ is much more likely to pursue another long-awaited clash with Fury instead.

Mike Tyson’s friend claims fight with Jake Paul was ‘rigged’ – as he reveals the moment he believes proves bout was fixed

Jake Paul‘s victory over Mike Tyson in their November scrap was fixed, a friend of the boxing legend has alleged.

Paul beat Tyson via unanimous decision in Texas in front of 70,000 fans and millions more watching over Netflix in what was largely a drab affair.

Iron Mike, 58, had suffered life-threatening health issues in the months preceding the fight and, despite a promising opening round, only landed 18 punches against a man 31 years his junior. Paul later claimed he had held off knocking out the icon out of respect.

This was his grand return to professional boxing, 19 years after his retirement, and had to go down as a seventh defeat on a formidable ledger that tells tales of six world heavyweight titles.

Fan theories ran wild in the build-up and aftermath of the fight that it had been rigged in Paul’s favour, and now it seems that Adam ‘Pacman’ Jones, a former NFL star and friend of Tyson, buys into them.

‘I truly think the fight was rigged because if you look at the first round, Mike hit him with a couple and it looked like he told him to slow down,’ Jones told the Mirror US.

‘I like Mike Tyson. I love Mike Tyson. I love to see a real fight with Mike Tyson.’

YouTuber-turned-puncher Paul has been no stranger to fight-fixing allegations since turning professional in 2020, even if they are sometimes made in jest.

‘The Problem Child’ has won 11 of his 12 fights, with his only defeat coming from the fists of Tommy Fury via a controversial split decision in February 2023.

Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul

Given his age and Tyson’s health issues, it only seemed natural that the contest would head one way.

Tyson had already won 45 fights and won and regained two heavyweight belts by the time Paul was born in 1997. The fight was originally supposed to take place in July but a stomach alcer flare-up while on a plane meant that the 58-year-old was advised to delay the contest.

At the time, Tyson said: ‘I asked the doctor, “Am I going to die?”

‘I lost 25 pounds in 11 days. Couldn’t eat. Only liquids. Every time I went to the bathroom, it smelled like tar.

‘All my coordination, stamina, everything was hectic getting back. I was peaked already. I could have fought him that day. Now, I got to start from scratch. I had, like, eight blood transfusions. The doctor said I lost half my blood. I almost died.’

Less than 24 hours after the fight, he wrote on X: ‘This is one of those situations when you lost but still won. I’m grateful for last night. No regrets to get in ring one last time.

‘I almost died in June. Had 8 blood transfusions. Lost half my blood and 25lbs in hospital and had to fight to get healthy to fight so I won.

‘To have my children see me stand toe to toe and finish eights rounds with a talented fighter half my age in front of a packed Dallas Cowboy stadium is an experience that no man has the right to ask for. Thank you’.

Iron Mike, who became the youngest heavyweight title-holder at 20 years and four months old in 1986, has struggled with a series of health issues in recent years.

Despite showing his enduring class in an exhbition bout against Roy Jones Jr in 2020, Tyson has persistently battled with chronic knee and back problems.

Two years ago, he had a severe sciatica episode which left him in a wheelchair and then using a cane.

Daniel Dubois Is Certain Who Wins Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury Fight: “He Should Retire

Both fighters are coming off defeats, leaving them at a cross-roads and forced to make important decisions about their futures in the sport.

Fury suffered the second successive defeat of his career when he was beaten by Oleksandr Usyk once again on December 21. The heavyweight stars clashed for the second time after their first meeting in May, with ‘The Gypsy King’ falling short once again, although many felt the rematch was a lot closer than their initial showdown.

‘AJ’ experienced defeat for the fourth time in his career when he was knocked out by IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois last September, which came as a shock to the boxing world with many predicting a routine outing for the two-time world champion.

With both men now forced to decide their next steps, many fans and pundits have called for the British heavyweight icons to finally face each other in what could be one of the biggest fights in British boxing history.

Speaking to Seconds Out, Dubois was asked to give his prediction on who he thinks would win between his former opponent ‘AJ’ and stablemate Fury.

Anthony Joshua

Dynamite’ did however follow up this prediction by claiming he thinks the 36-year-old from Morecambe should maybe consider walking away from the sport.

“He’s had a great career. It’s time for him to call it a day now.”The boxing world is eagerly awaiting news of a potential showdown between Joshua and Fury, with news on their respective futures expected to come very soon.

Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua in disagreement as Deontay Wilder ‘makes final decision

Deontay Wilder caused a disagreement between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua before reportedly deciding to fight again this year.

Wilder, at 39 years old, flaunts a daunting record of 43 wins, 4 losses, and 1 draw – including snagging the WBC heavyweight title in 2015 and valiantly defending it 10 times before ultimately being dethroned by none other than Fury himself. Their first encounter was in December 2018, ending in an edge-of-the-seat split draw, but when the two titans clashed again in February 2020, it was Fury who triumphed with a seventh-round TKO to snatch the championship.

Despite a third bout ending with Wilder on the wrong side of an eleventh-round knockout the following year, effectively crushing his title aspirations, he remained a feared figure in the heavyweight division. However, fast forward to 2025, and he’s riding a two-fight losing streak, prompting Fury to suggest it’s time for Wilder to hang up his gloves.

Speaking on the Pound 4 Pound podcast, Fury said: “Being truthful, I’d like to see poor old Deontay retire from boxing. Obviously, he lost the three fights to me. We took a lot of years off of each other’s lives. That war that ended in the 11th round by knockout, that takes a lot out your tank and you don’t recover from fights like that.

“Between me and Wilder in our trilogy there were 10 knockdowns. It takes a lot out of a fighter. Even when he’s come back and had a couple of fights since against Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang, he’s only a shadow of his former glory. The only thing left of Deontay is his name. And that’s it. So I’d like to see him retire for sure before he does damage to himself,” reports the Mirror.

Despite Fury’s comments about his ring rival, Wilder is planning a boxing comeback soon, according to reporter Manouk Akopyan. It’s claimed that Wilder will ‘return for a comeback fight in April on BLK Prime’ with an opponent set to be announced in Los Angeles on Saturday.

Anthony Joshua says retirement is solely Deontay Wilder’s choice

Deontay winder

Joshua, who disagreed with Fury’s take, will have his own opinion on Wilder deciding against retirement and returning to fight. Speaking about Wilder’s future last year off the back of his knockout defeat to Zhilei Zhang, AJ told DAZN: “It’s completely up to him, I can’t say. I just look at and say, ‘If you want to do it, do it’, it’s not a big deal boxing, if you want to fight, fight on, and if you don’t want to do it, don’t do it any more, it’s just where your heart’s at.

“He went in there against a good fighter in Zhilei, he’s an Olympian, Zhilei, people forget that. He’s come through, he’s got a great style. I fought him before in the Olympics and he’s still doing what he does now, so many years on. He was in with a real good, seasoned professional with a great pedigree. It doesn’t matter, come again if you want, and if you don’t, you’ve got your family there. There’s another life outside of boxing for him.”

Fury would be ‘massive favourite’ against Joshua – Jones

Tyson Fury would be a “massive favourite” against Anthony Joshua if the heavyweights fight this year, says former world super-featherweight champion Barry Jones.

British rivals Joshua and Fury have long been linked with fighting each other and are both coming off defeats in world title bouts.

Fury, 36, has already said he has no plans to retire following his loss to Oleksandr Usyk and Jones believes the Gypsy King showed against Usyk he has “plenty left” to give to boxing.

“Fury is a massive favourite but I think in general he was always a slight favourite [against Joshua],” Jones told the 5 Live Boxing with Steve Bunce podcast.

“He’ll want the Joshua fight because he’s almost beaten every fighter of his generation. It might be a different Joshua but it’s a different Fury.

“I think to get Joshua on his record in years to come will show how good he is.”

Jones believes the fight will happen in a stadium in the UK, but boxing expert Bunce disagrees.

Joshua, 35, was stopped by Daniel Dubois in their IBF world title fight last September, while Fury was outboxed by Usyk in a points defeat in December.

TysonFury-AnthonyJoshua

Bunce says another loss would be a massive blow to either man.

“The loser has a massive amount to lose,” Bunce said.

“Fury can lose to Usyk again no problem, Joshua can lose to Dubois again no problem.

“I just think this is a monumental fight, the loser of that drops a lot of ground pride-wise.”

Welterweight world champions Lauren Price and Natasha Jonas collide on 7 March in the first all-British unification fight of 2025.

Unbeaten Welshwoman Price, the WBA champion, challenges Jonas for her WBC and IBF titles.

Jones says 30 year-old Price is the favourite against Jonas, who at 40 became a two-weight unified champion last December.

“Jonas is a fighter in form, but I think Lauren Price is wrong for her in every facet,” Jones said.

“Price is not the biggest puncher but she’s strong, fast hands and stylistically it’s a hard fight for Natasha at her peak so now, she knows it’s a not a fight she would [have wanted to] take.”

“I think Price can be braver with her movement and although it will be an entertaining fight, I can’t see how Natasha wins.”

Why Deontay Wilder Performs Major U-Turn On Retiring From Boxing

Deontay Wilder hasn’t fought since back in June.

‘The Bronze Bomber’ was attempting to revive his career when he went up against big-punching Chinese heavyweight Zhilei Zhang in Saudi Arabia.

Prior to that fight, Wilder had seen his reign as WBC heavyweight champion brought to an end when he lost to Tyson Fury, with the American failing to win any of the three meetings they had.

He bounced back after that trilogy with a first round knockout win against Robert Helenius, but was then comfortably beaten on points by Joseph Parker in December 2023.

That set up the fight against Zhang, but it was another disappointing affair for Wilder, once again failing to display his trademark power that had seen 42 of his 43 victories end in knockout.

It ended in a fifth round knockout victory for Zhang, meaning that Wilder has now gone 1-4 in his last five professional contests.

Deontay winder

Speaking ahead of that fight with Zhang, Wilder had admitted that a defeat could have spelled an end for his boxing career.

“I would say that. It’s definitely a must-win fight, especially for me, and it sets up everything for the future.

“If I don’t get the win, we don’t know where we’ll go from here. Retirement could be a very big and serious conversation. This is a very important fight for me and in terms of my future.”

Despite the loss, Wilder has made a U-turn on those comments, after he confirmed to TMZ that he will definitely make a return to the ring.

“For me, the best is yet to come. Yeah, we’re still going. We’re still here, we’ll just get things together.”

While it’s currently unknown when Wilder could return, trainer Malik Scott has expressed interest in fights with Anthony Joshua, Francis Ngannou and Wladimir Klitschko.

Chris Eubank Jr Is Absolutely Certain How Usyk vs Dubois Rematch Goes: “If He Fights Like That”

Daniel Dubois is keen to run it back with Oleksandr Usyk.

The pair first met in August of 2023 in Poland, with Usyk defending his unified heavyweight world titles.

Though he outboxed Dubois for large periods of the fight, scoring a knockdown in the eighth and stoppage in the ninth, the Brit’s side have held on to the low blow that put the Ukrainian down in the fifth as a claim to winning the fight, believing the shot to have been legal.

Since then, Usyk became undisputed with a win over Tyson Fury and, to honour the rematch, vacated the IBF belt, which was awarded to Dubois. The young Brit defended his new title with a fifth round knockout over Anthony Joshua.

It was after that performance that Chris Eubank Jr told Mail Sport Boxing that the younger man could beat Usyk now.

“With that type of performance, I think he could [beat Usyk]. I didn’t see that Dubois against Usyk. If that Dubois fought Usyk then there would’ve been a different outcome.”

Daniel Dubois

After Usyk’s second win over Fury, Dubois promptly entered the ring to call for a rematch after being ‘robbed’ in Poland. He was criticised not only for taking the spotlight but also overlooking Joseph Parker, who he faces on February 22 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Should ‘DDD’ come through former champ Parker as he clearly expects to, Usyk did verbally agree to run it back – a chance to become twice undisputed in the division. Many, though, feel he should retire on top.

Tony Bellew Has No Doubt Who Wins Prime George Foreman vs Oleksandr Usyk: “I Have To Go With Him”

George Foreman and care two of the best heavyweights that boxing has seen.

Foreman’s legendary career saw him first become undisputed world heavyweight champion at the age of 24 when he knocked out Joe Frazier inside two rounds in 1973.

Foreman lost his titles 18 months later when he was stopped by Muhammad Ali in the iconic Rumble in the Jungle event, before he then initially retired in 1977.

He returned a decade later, but initially failed in his bids to become world champion again, suffering defeats to Evander Holyfield and Tommy Morrison respectively.

‘Big George’ eventually did manage to capture world honours again though, stopping Michael Moorer in the 10th round to win the WBA and IBF heavyweight titles in November 1994.

Foreman holds the record as the oldest world heavyweight champion in history at the age of 46 years and 169 days old, and retired in 1997 with a record of 76 wins and just 5 defeats, with an incredible 68 of those wins coming by knockout.

Usyk’s achievements are just as impressive, having initially reigned at cruiserweight, becoming undisputed champion in 2018 after defeating the likes of Mairis Briedis, Murat Gassiev and Tony Bellew.

The Ukrainian then moved up to heavyweight, beginning his time in the banner division with wins against Chazz Witherspoon and Derek Chisora, before he challenged Anthony Joshua for his world heavyweight titles.

Usyk beat Joshua to become WBA, IBF and WBO champion, before retaining them in a rematch a year later. He defended his belts once more against Daniel Dubois in August 2023, then took on Tyson Fury in an undisputed showdown in May 2024.

It was Usyk that claimed the win to add the WBC belt to his collection, before he then won the rematch against Fury this past December to again solidify his status as the current number one heavyweight in the world.

With all of that taken into consideration, former cruiserweight world champion Bellew has told Mail Sport Boxing who he thinks would win between Foreman and Usyk, and despite sharing the ring himself with the Ukrainian, he went with the legendary American.

“I’m going to have to go Big George.”

Usyk’s next move should be revealed in the coming months, but it may have already been revealed who he is expected to face.

Usyk Didn’t Hesitate When Asked If Anthony Joshua Can Ever Beat Dubois: “There’s One Problem”

Oleksandr Usyk has shared the ring with both Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois, and watched from ringside as the latter knocked out the former at Wembley Stadium.

Dubois, though he lost to Usyk in a bid for the unified heavyweight titles, later picked up a belt when the Ukrainian vacated. His first defence was against two-time champion Anthony Joshua, who was the man Usyk won the titles from in the first place.

Dubois steamrolled Joshua in the first round, knocking him down and thus dictating how the fight would go thereafter. He dropped the favourite twice more on his way to a fifth round stoppage and career-best performance.

Though the 27-year-old looked like he wouldn’t be denied a

gainst anybody that night, some feel that Joshua looked off from the ring walk. That may include Usyk, who, in a recent interview with Mail Sport Boxing, backed the best ‘AJ’ to beat the best Dubois.

Speaking to Boxing King Media post-fight, Usyk had already pinpointed exactly why ‘AJ’ was making himself vulnerable to Dubois’ power punches.

Anthony Joshua vs Daniel Dubois

“I’m not shocked because this is boxing. Daniel Dubois today was better. Anthony had one problem. Because this position [leans back with feet planted], it’s dangerous. If you want to, you step back like this [takes one foot back], not like this [repeats lean] because this is dangerous. We saw.”

Dubois is just as likely now to rematch Usyk as he is Joshua, having stepped into the ring to call out the Ukrainian after his most recent victory over Tyson Fury.
