Deontay Wilder Sums Up Terence Crawford’s Chances Of Beating Canelo In Just 3 Words

Terence Crawford looks set to move up two weight classes from his last outing to challenge unified super-middleweight champion Saul ‘Canelo‘ Alvarez

The switch-hitter from Omaha is adamant that he can overcome the difference in bulk to be just the third man to defeat Canelo, after Floyd Mayweather and Dmitry Bivol, in over 60 fights.

The fight, which once looked unlikely, gathered pace recently when boxing powerbroker Turki Alalshikh met with both men to discuss plans for 2025. Reports followed suggesting that the battle of the four-weight champs is agreed.

Speaking to ES News when Crawford was still at welterweight, former world heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder – who is set to make a ring return this year – said the jump up for Crawford is ‘way too much.’

“147 to 168? That’s way too much. Although you can switch southpaw to orthodox, when you touching those guys that are heavier, it’s a different feeling, it’s like you’re a baby.

“I’m not saying you can’t knock nobody out or put punishment on them, I just think it takes a little more time. When you go up in weight, the absorbing of the punches is a lot different than with smaller guys.”

Since that interview, Crawford has made a successful debut at super-welterweight, closing the gap slightly and becoming a WBA World Champion by beating Israil Madrimov.

The weight between the two men on the day of their last weigh-ins is now 14 pounds, still a significant amount for the American to overcome against a tough Mexican in Canelo who has dominated the 168 ranks and, though he has lost twice in his career on points, he has never been down and only significantly hurt on one or two occasions

Martin Bakole Makes His Daniel Dubois vs Joseph Parker Prediction After Sparring Both

Martin Bakole is an imposing heavyweight who has shared the ring with both Joseph Parker and Daniel Dubois.

Bakole has long been referring to himself as ‘the most avoided heavyweight on the planet’ and there is some evidence to back that up. He has failed to land big fights despite an impressive run of victories in recent years. He handed Tony Yoka his first defeat, has stopped the likes of Carlos Takam and most recently demolished the previously unbeaten knockout merchant Jared Anderson.

With the help of an IBF order, he is not set to face Efe Ajagba in order to determine the mandatory challenger for the world title, currently held by Dubois.

Bakole therefore has a keen eye on the Brit’s upcoming defence against former WBO champion Parker on February 22. Both men are in top form right now. Dubois has stopped Jarrell Miller, Fillip Hrgovic and Anthony Joshua in his last three contests, while Parker is coming off points wins over Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang.

Speaking to Eze Talks Sports, Bakole was asked to make his prediction having sparred several rounds with both men and making huge claims that he made Dubois ‘quit’ in one of those sessions. As such, he is backing Parker for the upset.

“I think Parker will win the fight, that’s my opinion.”

Bakole confirmed that he wants the winner after he beats Ajagba, but given that an undisputed fight with Oleksandr Usyk could be on the table for either Dubois or Parker, the Congolese heavyweight might again be left out in the cold, though he has been named as a potential opponent for Anthony Joshua.

Anthony Joshua next fight if not Tyson Fury or Daniel Dubois? Eddie Hearn names three potential opponents

Promoter Eddie Hearn said Anthony Joshua is likely going to start training later this month ahead of a return to the ring in May or June.

Hearn had hoped Joshua’s 2025 would include a bout, or two, with Tyson Fury, but after Fury announced he retired earlier in the week, Hearn might have to look elsewhere for opponents. That list may now include Martin Bakole, who called out Joshua on social media this week, and Deontay Wilder, the slugger long linked to Joshua who yesterday confirmed his comeback.

“What I said was our two preferred options are Tyson Fury and the winner of [Daniel] Dubois against [Joseph] Parker [on February 22]. But, if Tyson Fury never fights again, and we don’t get the winner of Dubois-Parker, AJ is still going to fight. He’s ready to almost return to camp, he wants to fight in May or June and they asked me for some names,” Hearn told Matchroom Boxing.

“[Martin] Bakole got his back up the other day, a little bit with the call out. There could potentially be a big fight in Africa, I think that’s an unlikely fight. Deontay Wilder is a fight, I think coming off the defeat people would still love to see, if Wilder comes back with a win, looks like he’s scheduled to fight again in February. Dillian Whyte, I don’t know. These are just names I’m plucking out, because AJ will fight.”

Hearn also has not given up on the possibility of Fury-Joshua.

“We will see what happens with Tyson Fury in the meantime,” Hearn added. “I can’t see Mr Fury leaving this fight on the table.”

Daniel Dubois Didn’t Hesitate When Asked If Anthony Joshua Should Now Retire

Daniel Dubois is still riding high off his victory over Anthony Joshua.

Dubois was a much-hyped young heavyweight contender who packed a serious punch. His career was derailed early on however by taking a loss to Joe Joyce. He was forced to take a knee due to damage to his eye and was counted out, which meant many onlookers questioned

He has roared back since then and in the last year in particular has shown his courage and skill by stopping Jarrell Miller in late December 2023, then knocking out the tough Fillip Hrgovic in June.

Most recently, he once again showed his power by knocking down Joshua and then stopping the former two-time world champion inside five rounds back in September at Wembley Stadium in front of a record crowd.

Speaking to Ring Magazine, Dubois was asked what he would do if he were now in Joshua’s position.

Joshua has remained quiet on this front, but many believed he was hoping to have a legacy-defining contest with Tyson Fury, but that took a big blow when Fury announced this week he is retiring from the sport.

Anthony Joshua / Daniel Dubois

Dubois meanwhile has his hands full with a second defence of his IBF crown when he takes on former WBO champion Joseph Parker on February 22. Parker is also on a hot run right now having beaten Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang, both on points, in his last two outings.

It seems likely that the winner will get a shot at undisputed against current three-belt ruler Oleksandr Usyk.

Floyd Mayweather made remarkable $300 million claim about monthly earnings with clever investment

The legendary fighter earned his ‘Money’ moniker during his boxing career, pocketing some of the biggest purses in t sport’s history including for his most famous fights  Conor McGregor and Manny Pacquiao

It is estimated that Mayweather generated in excess of $1.2 billion in total earnings from his professional career, a staggering number which is barely matched by any other fighter.

As a result, it has set the American icon up for a lifestyle of luxury and wealth, as well as for generations to come.

Of course the money can dry up if not careful, given Mayweather retired from competitive action in 2017.

He has since been fighting in lucrative exhibitions against the likes of Logan Paul, Deji and John Gotti III but his fighting exploits are likely to be behind him entirely soon.

But it is his investments outside of the sport that are currently paying dividends, including his passion for real estate and property.

And incredibly, during an acceptance speech after being inducted into the International Boxing Hall Of Fame in 2021, he suggested he makes a colossal $300 million each month.

He said: “I will continue to give back to the sport of boxing in my time, and I will also give back financially because I got it.

“To my team, my guys in New York, and my other real estate team that’s here today, we can’t be stopped.

“In 32 months, I put myself in a position with a smart business team to make $300m a month. It all started from the sport of boxing.”

Many at the time believed it may have have been a slip of the tongue from the American, who quoted the remarkable figure.

Floyd Mayweather Junior

But he later doubled down on that exact claim in a separate interview.

He added: “In 36 months of course. From one of my investments, I will be making $300 million a month.

“Just in real estate. I’m heavy in my investing in real estate. Even though I have my own cash.

“I have a lot of cash, but you don’t always have to use your money. You have to keep your credit right.”

Irrespective of the exact figure, Mayweather has completely monetised his brand and is likely one of the richest athletes in the sport’s history.

The American earned two paydays that are comparable to no other in his prime, first for his long-awaited showdown with bitter rival Pacquiao in 2015.

He pocketed a reported £230 million purse for the win, a frightening amount as the most lucrative nights came at the back end of his career.

The skillful champion also monetized a huge showdown with UFC superstar McGregor, in the final bout of his career in 2017.

He cruised to a routine win and earned another reported £230 million for the huge fight.

Mayweather promoted himself and gathered a huge team around him, allowing him to pursue the most money-spinning night available.

The legend now owns a boxing promotion of his own in Mayweather Promotions, and has an array of businesses.

Evander Holyfield Didn’t Hesitate To Name Who Would Have Won Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua Fight

Evander Holyfield has weighed in on a potential Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury clash as many in the sport still believe it takes place this year.

This all-British match up has been marinating for a number of years as both boxers fought their way to the top to become world champions with different governing bodies.

It was also one that many fight fans and boxing insiders were predicting would happen this year. It seemed to be the natural next step after both came unstuck in their most recent outings and were rather left with nowhere else to go.

Joshua was defeated via knockout by IBF King Daniel Dubois back in September while attempting to become a three-time world heavyweight champion, and Fury lost for a second consecutive time to the great Oleksandr Usyk.

Although no belts would be on the line, it would be a fight about pride, legacy, and British bragging rights. However, Fury threw a spanner in the works by announcing he was retiring from the sport earlier this week.

Speaking to Fight Hub TV, Former cruiser and heavyweight champion Holyfield was asked who would come out on top if the two do square off in the ring.\

TysonFury-AnthonyJoshua

“That would be a good fight. Both guys fight pretty much the same but I think Tyson, Tyson Fury, he’s a type of guy who can make an adjustment and out think him.”

Whether or not Fury, who has retired several times before only to return to the ring, goes though with this latest announcement is yet to be seen. Many still hope the epic fight with Joshua can be made this year.

Mike Tyson confirmed next fight to close circle immediately after Jake Paul loss

Mike Tyson is said to be considering stepping back into the boxing ring for a rematch with nemesis Evander Holyfield – the heavyweight champion whose ear he famously chewed off during a bout.

Tyson is poised to take a deal to go toe-to-toe with Holyfield, who beat the Brooklyn brawler twice in the 1990s. The astonishing claim comes from actor and martial arts champion and expert Paulo Tocha, who has an insight into the fight game and potential secret plans for Tyson.

Tocha suggested that Tyson is on course to step back between the ropes despite telling fans he was retired after losing to Jake Paul in the highly viewed Netflix clash last year.

Tocha, who starred opposite Jean Van Damme in Bloodsport, appeared nervous to spill more details when pressed on his inside knowledge of the Holyfield suggestion. But the South African, 69, feels that Tyson shook off some of his ring rust against Paul and is in better shape for second comeback bout.

He insisted Tyson was telling the truth when he suggested that may want another ring rumble immediately after the end of his Paul fight . Speaking exclusively at the premiere of ‘Chuck Zito: An American Story’, Tocha revealed: “At the end he kind of let us know there’s another one coming.

“Lemme put it this way, if Tyson trains correctly and prepares himself, he should take on another fight. A more serious fighter, a more serious opponent, and a bigger money maker.

“Most probably it’s going to be Evander after all. He and Evander – after what happened to his ear and all that. So most probably it’ll be something like that.“

Holyfield was one of the commentators for Netflix’s Tyson comeback. In 2021 the “Warrior” lost in the first round to Vitor Belfort in a return, which sparked controversy among the fight community.

But many social media fans blasted Tyson too for his performance and apparent lack of menace or ferocity against Paul. But Tocha believes the entrepreneur, who runs a cannabis empire, needed that match up to sharpen his skills again.

Mike Tyson

“That’s why I thought it was a good show, a warmup for Tyson,” he added. He got to get some rust off of the ring, got to feel himself again, caught himself back again on top.

“What do people expect him to do, really? I mean, good luck to him. He is a great warrior. He is a big champion and he’s one of the biggest, if not the biggest name in boxing. “

“But you’ve got to understand the fighter’s game and at that age, you’re not supposed to be in the ring, even if you’re spectacular. It’s just not so good for the brain. “

Tocha, who is friends with members of Tyson’s inner circle, was not happy with the backlash over the fight. He added: “I think in today’s fight world, it’s a fruit salad and you cut it all up and sometimes it comes out sour and sometimes it comes out sweet.

“And I feel with Tyson, he is exactly in that spot because the audience that’s watching him now doesn’t understand boxing from the old days. They’ve got no clue. He’s just a new name, a newcomer, and he’s part of a family tradition of fighters who watched Tyson throughout his career. It doesn’t matter when or if it’s raining or snowing or sunshine. It’s Tyson that’s fighting. It’s the name. I love him because of that.”

But Tocha believes Tyson would get his revenge on Holyfield, who took the Brooklyn brawler’s WBA Title with an 11th round TKO in Nov. 1996. Seven months later their second fight shocked fans when Tyson bit off a part of Holyfield’s ear and then chomped down on the other before being disqualified.

Asked who would win almost 30 years on from their bite night fright, Tocha smirked: “Between those two? Oh, Tyson. Always on Tyson, any way. But it’s business, man. It’s business. It’s smart. Where else are you going to make this kind of money in today’s world, in today’s society? It’s genius.”

He spoke at the premiere of close friend Chuck Zito’s film premiere for his documentary An American Story. The doc tells the story of how Zito went from being a New York Hell’s Angel to a celebrity bodyguard, actor and now close friend of Donald Trump.

Close friend Tocha said: “He’s as real as it gets. He’s a good actor, man, and he’s real. And Hollywood has got this problem with reality. They don’t accept it. They are chicken sh–, He’s a good dude.”

Mike Tyson makes massive $13million purchase with huge purse from record-breaking Jake Paul fight

Whatever you think of Tyson vs Paul, with over 108 million global viewers and a peak of 65 million streams, there’s no question that the event was, financially speaking, extremely successful.

Whilst the fight purses have not been officially disclosed, reports suggest that Jake Paul made around $40 million to fight the former world champion back in November 2024.

Mike Tyson reportedly made around $20 million from that divisive matchup and is now splashing the cash with a new property in South Florida.

According to a report from the Palm Beach Post in Florida, Mike Tyson is making the most out of his extra revenue this year and has splashed a whopping $13 million on a new property.

As per a special warranty deed filed earlier this week, Tyson’s new 2.7-acre lot is one of only 78 properties located in the exclusive Tierra del Rey Estates area of Delray Beach and includes access to a private lake.

Tyson’s representative on the sale, Joseph Jonathan Schneider, told the outlet “This has been a successful transaction with all the parties demonstrating professionalism and collaboration.

“The Tyson family has been a valued client and friend for many years, and it’s been a pleasure working with them.”

Real Estate broker Matthew Maschler previously explained how Tyson was tempted into purchasing a property in the Tierra del Rey Estates (which translates into ‘Land of the Kings’) after his daughter started playing tennis.

“Basically, the appeal to him is his daughter plays tennis, and she plays in Delray, so he wants to be able to fly in, go see his daughter’s tennis match, go back to his plane and fly to wherever he came from.”

Being able to purchase a $13 million property in such a picturesque location must give Tyson a tremendous boost, especially with family ties in mind, but was it all worth it?

We imagine that had Mike Tyson been knocked out by Jake Paul, the answer to that question would have been wildly different, although fellow combat sports icons are still divided either way.

On one side of the Tyson-Paul debate is boxing legend Lennox Lewis, who told The Mirror a few weeks after the event that he was satisfied that all those involved got what they signed up for.

“You’re talking about an event for fans of Tyson to actually see him back in the ring, and fans of YouTuber, to see him in the ring with Tyson.

“At the end of the day, you’ve got a big event that a lot of people were happy to attend, and they felt OK. The boxing purists didn’t feel OK, they didn’t feel it was the right thing to do.”

Then, on the other side, you’ve got the likes of Mixed Martial Arts icon Don Frye, who claimed that the fight between 58-year-old Tyson and 27-year-old Paul made him sick with anger.

I tell you what buddy, that made me want to vomit,” said Frye via garyhgoodridge, sharing how he went home to watch some actual combat sports and not a “fraud” event.

Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul

“I was so disgusted with that I had to go home and put in Tommy Hearns and Sugar Ray Robinson and Sugar Ray Leonard and Jake LaMotta, Rocky Marciano; I had to watch some real fighters because if I didn’t, I’d never watch another boxing match again – that was a fraud.”

The former dual-weight UFC champion recently sent shockwaves through the combat sports world by revealing he was in talks for a fight with YouTuber-turned-WWE star Logan Paul.

Rumors of a $500million purse gathered pace before ‘The Maverick’ seemingly ended talk of a return to the boxing ring, which he has previously entered three times for fights with Dillon Danis, Floyd Mayweather, and KSI.

Logan Paul ‘dedicated his life’ to the WWE and left Conor McGregor searching for a new opponent as he looks to end his lengthy layoff that dates back to July 2021.

Paul’s PRIME business partner boasts a 4-1 (1NC) professional boxing record.

The 31-year-old Englishman is currently looking for someone to face in his first fight since suffering a controversial unanimous defeat against Tommy Fury in October 2023.

KSI recently claimed that talk about him boxing McGregor was more than rumors. Now Mams Taylor – Misfits Boxing guru and KSI’s manager – has revealed that serious negotiations for the fight are currently taking place.

“There are talks taking place, and talks are leading to more talks,” Taylor told talkSPORT.

Fury announces retirement from boxing again

Former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has announced his retirement from boxing.

Fury last fought in December when he lost his rematch against WBA (Super), WBC and WBO champion Oleksandr Usyk.

The 36-year-old Fury previously announced his retirement after beating Dillian Whyte in April 2022 but returned six months later.

The Briton has enjoyed two stints as heavyweight champion and holds a record of 34 wins, two defeats and one draw.

“Hi everybody, I’m going to make this short and sweet,” Fury said.

“I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing, it has been a blast, I’ve loved every single minute of it and I’m going to end with this; Dick Turpin wore a mask.”

The Briton shocked long-reigning world champion Wladimir Klitschko in 2015 to win the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, IBO, and The Ring heavyweight titles.

After over two-and-a-half years out of the ring, during which he tackled mental health issues, Fury returned to action in 2018 and became a two-time champion by beating Deontay Wilder to claim the WBC belt in 2020.

‘Is this the end? I doubt it’ – Hearn

Fury’s decision to retire denies fans the chance to see a long-anticipated clash with fellow Briton Anthony Joshua.

On Saturday, Joshua said a fight with Fury “has to happen this year” when speaking at the Ring Magazine awards.

Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn, who promotes Joshua, has however questioned the legitimacy of Fury’s announcement.

“We’ve been here before. If that is the end, congratulations on a great career,” Hearn told BBC Sport.

“One of the best heavyweights of this generation and made a bucket load of money. If your hearts not in it, if the fight has been punched out of you, it’s definitely time to call it quits.

“A few people will always suggest that he could be calling a bluff, but I don’t know him well enough to give you an answer. If you don’t want it anymore, if your hearts not in it anymore, if you’ve had the fight punched out of you – it’s a dangerous game.”

Joshua and Fury have been leading figures in the heavyweight division over the past decade but both are looking to bounce back from losses.

Joshua suffered the fourth defeat of his career against IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois in September, while Fury’s last two trips to the ring have ended in losses against Usyk.

“You do not want to get in the ring with Anthony Joshua if you’re doing it for money,” Hearn added.

“You’ve got to want it. You’ve got to want to provide the British public with the biggest fight in the history of the sport. You’ve got to want to go to war with AJ and get that victory. If it’s just a money thing, you’ve got enough money.

“I’m always an optimist. For me when that fight with AJ is a fight that can be made in two minutes in a room, I am always hopeful. But Tyson Fury’s earned the right to make his own decisions. If he’s done, he’s done. If not, then we make the biggest fight in the history of the sport. Only time will tel

“Every fight fan stops me in the street and asks when do we get to see that fight. AJ has made it very clear in last couple of days, he’s called Fury out. It’s quite unlike Anthony.

“Fury doesn’t want the fight, there’s nothing you can do. You can’t drag him into the fight. I don’t know whether this was a move to stop the flow of pressure because with AJ calling him out, pressure is mounting. It could be the start of a great build-up, great mind games or it could be the end of Tyson Fury’s career.

“What lays in the palm of his hand is the biggest fight in the history of our country. Will he walk away from that? Maybe.”

‘He’s been something special’ – Warren

Fury boasted an undefeated record of 34 wins and one draw until he met Ukraine’s Usyk in the first heavyweight undisputed contest of the four-belt era.

Tyson Fury

Usyk won the first meeting by split-decision and backed up that performance with a unanimous decision victory last month.

Frank Warren, who promotes Fury, told BBC Radio 5 Live he had not spoken to Fury prior to his retirement announcement.

I’ve said all along that there is no way I will be trying to in anyway influence him,” Warren said.

“If that what he wants to do, that’s great. He’s done everything he can do. Probably been the best British heavyweight of his generation by far. Two-time world champion, two closely fought fights against Usyk. He’s got plenty of money, got his wits about him, got a lovely family. God bless him, enjoy.

“He’s become a world star. If you look at some of the fights he’s had, he’s not been in one fight that hasn’t been exciting. Very, very exciting fights. Big heart, got off the floor when he’s been knocked down by big punches and come back to win fights. He’s been something special.”

A quick glance at the comments section on Fury’s retirement announcement video tells you everything you need to know. We have been here before and only a few truly believe the Gypsy King’s words.

The general feeling is that Fury will be lured back into the ring. A super-fight with Joshua, one which has been years in the making, makes too much money for it to not materialise – especially with the Saudi-funded heavyweight showdowns.

After Fury’s losses to Usyk and Joshua’s shock defeat by Daniel Dubois, perhaps this is Fury’s way to hype up a fight which had lost a bit of its appeal; make the public think it will never happen before it does. Fury’s savvy boxing business acumen matches his in-ring intelligence.

If this is the end for the Morecambe fighter – and that’s a big if – then he will go down as one of Britain’s greatest heavyweights of the modern-era, and there is certainly no shame ending your career after defeats by generational great Oleksandr Usyk.
