Fury would be ‘massive favourite’ against Joshua – Jones

Tyson Fury would be a “massive favourite” against Anthony Joshua if the heavyweights fight this year, says former world super-featherweight champion Barry Jones.

British rivals Joshua and Fury have long been linked with fighting each other and are both coming off defeats in world title bouts.

Fury, 36, has already said he has no plans to retire following his loss to Oleksandr Usyk and Jones believes the Gypsy King showed against Usyk he has “plenty left” to give to boxing.

“Fury is a massive favourite but I think in general he was always a slight favourite [against Joshua],” Jones told the 5 Live Boxing with Steve Bunce podcast.

“He’ll want the Joshua fight because he’s almost beaten every fighter of his generation. It might be a different Joshua but it’s a different Fury.

“I think to get Joshua on his record in years to come will show how good he is.”

Jones believes the fight will happen in a stadium in the UK, but boxing expert Bunce disagrees.

Joshua, 35, was stopped by Daniel Dubois in their IBF world title fight last September, while Fury was outboxed by Usyk in a points defeat in December.

Bunce says another loss would be a massive blow to either man.

“The loser has a massive amount to lose,” Bunce said.

“Fury can lose to Usyk again no problem, Joshua can lose to Dubois again no problem.

“I just think this is a monumental fight, the loser of that drops a lot of ground pride-wise.”

Welterweight world champions Lauren Price and Natasha Jonas collide on 7 March in the first all-British unification fight of 2025.

Unbeaten Welshwoman Price, the WBA champion, challenges Jonas for her WBC and IBF titles.

Jones says 30 year-old Price is the favourite against Jonas, who at 40 became a two-weight unified champion last December.

“Jonas is a fighter in form, but I think Lauren Price is wrong for her in every facet,” Jones said.

“Price is not the biggest puncher but she’s strong, fast hands and stylistically it’s a hard fight for Natasha at her peak so now, she knows it’s a not a fight she would [have wanted to] take.”

“I think Price can be braver with her movement and although it will be an entertaining fight, I can’t see how Natasha wins.”

Usyk Didn’t Hesitate When Asked If Anthony Joshua Can Ever Beat Dubois: “There’s One Problem”

Oleksandr Usyk has shared the ring with both Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois, and watched from ringside as the latter knocked out the former at Wembley Stadium.

Dubois, though he lost to Usyk in a bid for the unified heavyweight titles, later picked up a belt when the Ukrainian vacated. His first defence was against two-time champion Anthony Joshua, who was the man Usyk won the titles from in the first place.

Dubois steamrolled Joshua in the first round, knocking him down and thus dictating how the fight would go thereafter. He dropped the favourite twice more on his way to a fifth round stoppage and career-best performance.

Though the 27-year-old looked like he wouldn’t be denied a

gainst anybody that night, some feel that Joshua looked off from the ring walk. That may include Usyk, who, in a recent interview with Mail Sport Boxing, backed the best ‘AJ’ to beat the best Dubois.

Speaking to Boxing King Media post-fight, Usyk had already pinpointed exactly why ‘AJ’ was making himself vulnerable to Dubois’ power punches.

Anthony Joshua vs Daniel Dubois

“I’m not shocked because this is boxing. Daniel Dubois today was better. Anthony had one problem. Because this position [leans back with feet planted], it’s dangerous. If you want to, you step back like this [takes one foot back], not like this [repeats lean] because this is dangerous. We saw.”

Dubois is just as likely now to rematch Usyk as he is Joshua, having stepped into the ring to call out the Ukrainian after his most recent victory over Tyson Fury.

Chris Eubank Jr Is Certain Who Wins Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury Fight

Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua could be set to meet in 2025.

It’s a fight that has been teased for a number of years, and it now looks like each fighter has no other option than to face one another.

Fury is fresh from another defeat to Oleksandr Usyk, coming up short by unanimous decision in their second meeting in December after losing their first encounter by split decision back in May.

‘The Gypsy King’ missed out on the chance to become undisputed champion when he lost that initial fight to Usyk earlier this year, and the defeat in the rematch means that Fury still holds no world title belts.

Joshua knows full well himself what it is like to lose back-to-back fights against Usyk, having been beaten by the Ukrainian great twice in 2021 and 2022.

Those defeats saw ‘AJ’ lose his unified world heavyweight titles, but he did have an attempt to win one of them back when he challenged IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois in September.

It wasn’t to be though for Joshua, as Dubois dominated the action at Wembley Stadium and picked up a fifth round stoppage win.

Their recent defeats mean that a fight between Fury and Joshua doesn’t hold as much glamour as it once did, but still remains a fight that fans would be interested in seeing.

One big name that has weighed in on the clash is Chris Eubank Jr, and he has didn’t hesitate when telling MailSport who he sees as the better of the two

Fury and Joshua have shared six opponents during their respective careers, and they have all given their thoughts on who would come out on top.

Ogun to construct Anthony Joshua Indoor Boxing Ring – Abiodun

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has announced plans by his administration to construct a brand new Anthony Joshua Indoor Boxing Ring in the state.

Governor Abiodun also announced that the two-time former world heavyweight boxing champion would be lighting the Gateway Games National Sports Festival torch, which has been postponed to May next year.

The Governor made this known on Monday when he hosted the two-time world heavyweight boxing champion in his office.

I want to openly request that, besides the fact that today we are going to officially confirm you as our sports ambassador, we want to request that you come back to light up the Gateway Sports Festival torch; you will be the one lighting it up.

“We are going to construct a brand new Anthony Joshua Indoor Boxing Ring, and that boxing ring will be in a stadium here in Abeokuta to ensure that you come home more frequently. Besides the fact that you are now our official sports ambassador, we have decided that we will give you a brand new house in Sagamu,” he said.

The Governor urged Anthony Joshua to find ways of supporting the state in the area of sports development by working alongside the Director General of the National Sports Commission and the state Commissioner for Sports Development to host a boxing championship in the state.

“We want to plead that you also find ways to support us back home. We believe that we should have tournaments planned leading to the sports festival, and you were expressing how you will participate and what you can do to mentor.

We leave you to work with our Director General of the National Sports Commission and the Commissioner for Sports Development on what we can do to ensure that we have activities leading to the sports festival in your boxing arena.

“Proudly, we bid for the National Sports Festival for this year, and we won that bid. The festival was supposed to be in January; however, for some technical reasons, it’s been postponed to sometime in May.

“In preparation for the sports festival, we are spending a lot of money; we are totally refurbishing, rehabilitating, and reconstructing our sporting facilities. As you know, sports is a universal language; it brings people from different parts of the world together,” he said.

The Governor noted that the state is blessed with many talents spread across music, arts, and sports who are doing very well and, at the same time, placing the state on the world map.

Prince Abiodun added that the state is extremely proud of the achievements of Anthony Joshua on the world stage, saying that his administration would support his career in every way it can.

Your coming back home will be a source of motivation and inspiration for many young men who are aspiring sportsmen, and we have quite a lot of them in Ogun State.

“I want to congratulate you on what you have achieved in such a short span of time. You’ve made a short story of your life and your career.

“Whatever we can do to encourage you to continue to win more laurels for yourself, your family, for the state, and Nigeria, be assured that we will be more than happy to do that. We watch your career grow, and we are going to support your career in every way we can,” he said.

Earlier in his remarks, Anthony Joshua noted that he would work towards promoting Ogun State to the rest of the world by showcasing the numerous talents in the state.

Deontay Wilder Coach Makes Bold Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury Prediction

Deontay Wilder’s long-time boxing coach Malik Scott, who helped guide the American puncher through some of his most historic bouts, has made a bold prediction for the prospective all-British super-fight between heavyweight rivals Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury.

Joshua and Fury have been linked with one another for years but are yet to fight, despite hailing from the same country, and competing in the same division, for more than a decade. However, after exhausting other options, and after both have suffered significant setbacks of late, 2025 could finally be the year that they come to blows. And those within the industry are having their say over who could come out on top should they swap slugs any time soon.

Tyson Fury Has Declined, Malik Scott Says

Anthony Joshua, too, has had bad nights but has shown he bounces back from these, Scott added

After Fury’s two defeats to Oleksandr Usyk, the dominant Ukrainian will likely move on from that rivalry, and onto either a rematch with Daniel Dubois to once again unify all the titles, or a new challenger entirely. Joshua, meanwhile, lost to Dubois and, like Fury, finds himself further down the divisional rankings. A big bout between them could be billed as a last-chance-saloon fight for eventual world title challenges for the winner, and the winner only.

For Scott, it remains “a good fight,” even if it arrives years beyond when they were both competing in their respective primes.

When breaking down the fight for The Stomping Ground on YouTube, Scott said: “If we’re going off the last couple of fights, we have to go with Tyson. But it depends which ‘AJ’ turns up.”

“But I also know styles make fights. Tyson is not who he was three years ago.”

Usyk is the first, and only, fighter to defeat Fury. It is unknown how Fury bounces back from defeat, let alone two. Joshua, meanwhile, has bounced back from setbacks time and again. And this experience could be a difference-maker between them, according to Scott.

“To me, ‘AJ’ had a bad outing against Dubois, but I’ve seen ‘AJ’ come back from bad outings and even look impressive,” he said.

“If it would be ‘AJ’ who fought [Kubrat] Pulev, that ‘AJ’ would give anybody hell. It’s a good fight, it’s something I would look forward to.”

Wilder’s Trainer Malik Scott Predicts Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury: “He’s Not Who He Used To Be”

Tyson Fury versus Anthony Joshua remains one of the biggest fights in boxing despite the recent losses on both men’s records.

Former two-time world champion Fury has taken back-to-back defeats to Oleksandr Usyk in his last two fights. The first was in May when he failed to win the undisputed world heavyweight title after being hurt badly in the ninth round and losing on the cards. The rematch on December 21 saw Usyk repeat the win, this time with unanimous cards reading 116-112 in his favour.

Joshua meanwhile was stopped in September by current IBF world champion Daniel Dubois. He also lost back-to-back fights to Usyk in 2012 and 2022.

Despite that, many in the sport would love to see the two Brits do battle in what would be a huge fight before they retire.

Deontay Wilder’s trainer and a former heavyweight contender Malik Scott is one of them. Speaking to The Stomping Ground, he was asked who would win were they to fight next.

“If we’re going off the last couple of fights we have to go with Tyson but it depends which ‘AJ’ turns up But I also know styles make fights. Tyson is not who he was three years ago.

To me, ‘AJ’ had a bad outing against Dubois but I’ve seen ‘AJ’ come back from bad outings and even look impressive. If it would be ‘AJ’ who fought Pulev, that ‘AJ’ would give anybody hell. It’s a good fight, it’s something I would look forward to.”

Fury eyes Joshua fight after Usyk defeat

Tyson Fury has set his sights on a blockbuster clash with Anthony Joshua following his unanimous decision loss to undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk in Saudi Arabia, The PUNCH reports.

The bout, estimated to generate £250m in pay-per-view and box office revenue, has been dubbed “the biggest fight in British boxing history” by promoter Eddie Hearn.

“It’s what people will want to see. The Fury-Joshua fight is a big fight, and if it happens, it will be a mega fight. But it will only happen if Tyson wants to do it,” Fury’s promoter Frank Warren told The Sun.

Hearn, who manages Joshua, emphasised the global appeal of the potential clash.

“Everyone will always want to see it. For me, AJ against Fury is the fight that will take place at Wembley. It will be a global event,” Hearn told Marca.

Fury’s second defeat to Usyk saw all three judges score the bout 116-112 in favour of the Ukrainian, with ‘The Gypsy King’ storming out of the ring and claiming he had been “robbed.”

New footage from TNT Sports shows the 36-year-old walking around the Kingdom Arena, criticising the decision to hold the fight in Saudi Arabia, saying, “You get nothing in these countries.”

Interestingly, Usyk has backed Joshua to defeat Fury if they eventually meet.

“Maybe Anthony Joshua. Maybe on points,” the Ukrainian told Boxing King Media when asked about the potential matchup between his former opponents.

The heavyweight king has faced both men, claiming the unified heavyweight titles from Joshua in 2021 and defending them in their 2022 rematch before achieving undisputed status against Fury earlier this year.

With IBF champion Daniel Dubois scheduled to defend his belt against Joseph Parker on February 22, the path appears clear for the long-awaited Fury vs Joshua showdown, although it would no longer crown an undisputed champion.

Joshua, 34, who suffered his fourth professional loss against Dubois at Wembley Stadium, is still “hurting” from the devastating defeat, according to Hearn.

“Yeah, he is hurting. He took a pasting at times in that fight and I think he has got his back up and he wants to come back stronger,” Hearn told talkSPORT.

Despite recent losses for both men, the potential clash remains one of boxing’s most anticipated matchups, with The Sun reporting that Fury told friends, “This is not over,” signalling his intent to continue his career.

Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk contract deals blow to Anthony Joshua

Tyson Fury is obligated to a third bout with Oleksandr Usyk if he triumphs over his adversary this weekend.

The two heavyweight contenders are gearing up for another face-off on Saturday night, with Usyk aiming to secure a 2-0 lead in the series. The Ukrainian made history by being the first to defeat Fury professionally, clinching a split-decision victory in Riyadh last May.

And Fury’s promoter Frank Warren has disclosed that a third match between the two titans is ‘contracted. ‘ When questioned if a trilogy fight between Fury and Usyk would take precedence over potential bouts with Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois, Warren confirmed to Boxing News: “Oh it does because it’s contracted. And whatever happens, that would be the case if Tyson wins… providing nobody retires.”

“There’s no secret! I’m going in there to knock you out because I don’t think I’m going to get a decision no matter what I do. I don’t think I’m going to get a boxing decision, so I’m going to have to take it out of the judges hands like I did in America that time and I’ve got to get him (Usyk) out of there. Hand on heart, I have to get him out of there to see victory.

‘The Gypsy King,’ Fury, has taken a step back from a match with Joshua, saying if he triumphs this Saturday he’ll opt for another round with Usyk. “When I win on Saturday night, I think there’s got to be a trilogy next year for sure,” Fury disclosed in an interview with Al Arabiya. “Joshua’s in tatters at the moment. He has got to pick up the pieces from his last fight. But the fight with Usyk – one on Saturday and the one afterwards – would be fantastic for me.”

Anthony Joshua

Amidst his focus on Usyk, Fury shed light on his strategy for the highly-anticipated rematch happening this weekend. Revealing his battle plan to ‘Undisputed’ ahead of its game launch, Fury stated: “I needed to get Wilder out of there or he got me out of there and that’s the type of fight it had to be. It had to be a 50/50 gunsling with the biggest puncher in history or else he’d have chinned me in round nine. Going into the rematch with Usyk, it’s going to be the same. I’m going to roll the dice and it’s going to be you or me… best foot forward and swing away. I’ve never been afraid to get knocked spark out. I’ve always put it on the line every time.”

“There’s no secret! I’m going in there to knock you out because I don’t think I’m going to get a decision no matter what I do. Tyson Fury says he “feels sorry” for Anthony Joshua after his knockout defeat to Daniel Dubois – but insists he still wants to fight his British rival.

Joshua suffered the fourth loss of his professional career when he succumbed to IBF heavyweight champion Dubois at Wembley Stadium in September.

The former world champion was dropped four times in five rounds by Dubois on a chastening night but will seemingly fight on, with promoter Eddie Hearn saying a rematch with Dubois or a clash with Fury will be Joshua’s next contest.

Fury, who will face Oleksandr Usyk once again on December 21 after losing their first fight via a split decision in May, said of Joshua on Sky News: “I feel sorry for him at the minute, being cleaned out in the last fight in five rounds, so he’ll have to do that again – or not – and then decide his future.

“I’ve said after every [Anthony Joshua] loss I’ve felt deflated.

“When an adversary loses, and it’s not to you, you do feel down and depressed about it. I felt sad for him. It was sad to see a worthy opponent lose his crown.

“I’d still fight him whether he’s got five losses, 10 losses or 20. It’s not important because, at this stage of our careers, it’s about having good fights.

“I think it would still be an entertaining and interesting fight for the paying pundit.”

However, Fury says his immediate goal is for a third fight with Usyk, after previous trilogies versus Deontay Wilder and Derek Chisora.

“I would like to have a trilogy with Usyk. It would be 1-1 and then we would have to do a rubber match and I’d be the only heavyweight in history to have three trilogies. That would be quite impressive.”

  • Turki Alalshikh has revealed the proposed date for AJ’s rematch with Dubois
  • Dubois, 27, made a statement at Wembley Stadium, knocking Joshua out
  • Dubois will be looking to do the same again when they face off for a second time

Turki Alalshikh has revealed the proposed date for the highly anticipated rematch between British heavyweights Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois.

The two fighters are expected to face off again on February 22, 2025, in what promises to be a blockbuster event.

The announcement comes after weeks of speculation surrounding when and where the rematch would take place, following their explosive first encounter earlier this year.

While the venue has yet to be confirmed, it is widely expected that Saudi Arabia will once again play host, given the country’s recent push to establish itself as a major hub for boxing’s biggest fights.

Alalshikh, who has been instrumental in orchestrating high-profile bouts in the region, broke the news during an interview with The Stomping Ground following Beterbiev’s victory over Bivol.

He confirmed that negotiations have progressed to the point where February 22nd has been tentatively set for the rematch.

The rematch comes on the heels of their thrilling first fight, where Dubois knocked AJ out in the fifth round at Wembley Stadium.

Dubois went against tradition and emerged out into Wembley Stadium first despite being the reigning champion, and it was fitting that from the opening bell he showcased his immense power and scored a huge knockdown in the opening round.

Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois.

A stunned ‘AJ’ returned to his corner to seek the guidance of trainer Ben Davison and, in the second round, he did manage to hang on as ‘Dynamite’ Dubois pushed forward.

However, Joshua never looked as though he’d fully recovered from the early blow and was on the canvas once again in the third round, seconds before the bell rang.

It didn’t take long for ‘AJ’ to be sent down to the canvas again as, in the fourth round, Dubois connected with another huge hook that had Joshua’s corner concerned.

Somehow, the 34-year-old managed to get to his feet once more and marched forward, despite the heavy blows he’d taken in the opening rounds.

However, it was all in the fifth after Joshua caught Dubois and charged forward before the IBF heavyweight champion delivered a brilliant counter right-hook that sent his rival to the canvas.

Joshua attempted to get back to his feet for the fourth time in the fight but stumbled over and gave the referee a simple decision to call off the bout.

The February 22nd rematch is expected to draw massive global attention, with fans eager to see if Dubois can replicate his impressive display.

Given the magnitude of their first fight and the stakes surrounding this second meeting, the event could have significant implications for the heavyweight division.
