Tiger Woods has been joined by professional golfer Jordan Spieth in backing a $150 million restoration and expansion of the Cobbs Creek Golf Campus in West Philadelphia and Upper Darby, writes John George for Philadelphia Business Journal.

A three-time major winner, Spieth has awarded the Cobbs Creek Foundation a $250,000 grant through the Jordan Spieth Family Foundation for a junior putting green.

The grant will cover the total cost of a planned 20,000-square-foot putting green that will introduce younger players to the game and hopefully open more door to future players, according to Jeff Shanahan, president of the Cobbs Creek Foundation.

The putting green will be built outside of the TGR Learning Lab, an educational center for local youth. The Cobbs Creek Foundation is partnering with pro golfer Tiger Woods charity, the TGR Foundation to build the center.

Both the putting green and the lab should be finished by 2025.

The Spieth family hope the project fosters a love of golf for younger players.

“Golf is a great vehicle to learn valuable life lessons, as well as receive comprehensive mentorship and support,” Annie Spieth, Jordan’s wife, said in a statement.

Daniel Dubois shocked the boxing world when he knocked out Anthony Joshua last month.

Although ‘DDD’ went into the contest as the champion he was the heavy underdog before the first bell rang. However, the 27-year-old dominated the action from the first bell and had AJ down in opening round from a thunderous right hand. Dubois sent his man to the canvas a further two times before landing the final right hand in the fifth to close the show.

Many thought the size of the occasion might get to the IBF champion, but Derek Chisora told Seconds Out that it was Joshua who ‘froze’ on fight night.

“There’s no two ways about it, he [Joshua] froze.

Look at the fight. He was chucking like he didn’t want to hit Daniel. He froze from the moment the bell went. I think he froze from the moment he walked out his dressing room. He didn’t feel the canvas around the ring, walk around, things like that. Things he normally does he didn’t do. He came in and went in one corner, that was it. You have to look at people’s way, how they do stuff.”

When asked for his thoughts on the rematch, Chisora was confident that AJ would get revenge.

“The best thing is the rematch, I believe Joshua wins in the rematch. He has to change his ways. He wins in the rematch. He’ll go back and look at it and say this is what I did wrong, this is what I’m gonna fix and he’ll fix it. That is it. It’s just one of those things.”

Although no official announcement has been made, it appears that all parties, including Turki Alalshikh, want the rematch to happen next.

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum says Anthony Joshua is an overrated fighter, following the Brit’s shock fifth-round knockout defeat to Daniel Dubois at Wembley.

Joshua, who was dropped four times en route to the loss, missed out on the IBF belt and saw his hopes of securing an undisputed fight diminish significantly.

The defeat has raised questions about Joshua’s future in the sport, although the former two-time unified heavyweight champion has confirmed he will not be retiring.

Arum, known for his outspokenness, was particularly critical of Joshua’s performance, saying, “I’ve never been high on Joshua, but I never thought he was a great fighter, particularly after the Andy Ruiz fight.

“Again, it didn’t surprise me. I think Joshua is very, very vulnerable.”

The veteran promoter’s comments were largely based on Joshua’s 2019 loss to Andy Ruiz Jr. at Madison Square Garden, where Joshua suffered his first professional defeat.

Despite Joshua’s subsequent rematch victory over Ruiz, Arum maintained that the initial loss exposed significant weaknesses in the British boxer’s arsenal.

Joshua’s trainer, Ben Davidson, has also come under fire, with former world champion Roy Jones Jr. suggesting that Joshua should part ways with him.

Anthony Joshua

While a rematch with Dubois is a possibility, Arum believes it would be ill advised.

“I think the silliest thing for Joshua would be to fight Dubois again,” the promoter warned.

Despite the setback, Joshua still has options for big fights. Reports suggest that Saudi Arabian officials are interested in staging a Joshua vs. Tyson Fury bout, regardless of recent results.

A potential clash with Deontay Wilder also remains on the table, with Wilder’s trainer Malik Scott expressing interest in the matchup despite the American’s recent losses to Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang.

As Joshua contemplates his next move, questions linger about his long-term future in the sport.

Given his reported $400m career earnings, the boxer’s financial security is assured, raising questions about the wisdom of risking further punishment in the ring.

When it comes to inspiring the next generation, nobody quite does it like the queen of gymnastics. Simone Biles is simply an icon. But recently, a budding icon came to Biles’s attention. And that is none other than the five-year-old Nova Davidson. She might be young, but she is already a level 4 gymnast from Virginia. And young Nova’s goal? The Olympics.

Nova recently had the world’s eyes on her when she went viral. The five-year-old’s mom posted a video of her practicing on a beam. The video ended up getting over 44 million views. The video was enough to turn heads of the greatest in gymnastics itself, so much so that the G.O.A.T. herself had to take time out of the tour to appreciate it. Who is better than the G.O.A.T. herself to encourage the Biles in the making?

As someone who began training at 6, Biles understands Nova better than anyone. That’s why, amidst the hectic GOAT schedule, she surprised Nova on “The Talk.” And the G.O.A.T. was all praises for the prodigy! She went on to say, “I’ve seen the talent that Nova has. I actually got to meet her earlier this year, so I just wanted to be a part of her TV debut.” Just imagine being so talented that the queen herself appeared for you, that too bearing gifts!

Yes, that’s right. Simone Biles did not pop up empty-handed. She had a leotard waiting for Nova. And it’s no ordinary leotard either! “The leotards are from my holiday collection. They haven’t come out just yet, but I wanted you to be the first to have them, Nova,” said Biles. She did not stop there; in the video, Simone saw a prodigy with a golden journey ahead. But the advice she had for Nova was not about winning!

Biles, when asked if she had any words of wisdom to share, said, “Just always have fun and live in the moment.” These are not just loose words as a reminder to live in the moment, something that Biles herself does. In fact, the very beginning of her journey began with having fun. In a 2021 video, she went on to say, “I just had fun, and they sent a letter home, and mom asked if I wanted to join.” Thus began Biles’ gymnastics journey, and the rest is history.

The message Biles had for Nova Davidsson was one athlete telling the other that those 12 hours a week that Nova is putting into training are also to be enjoyed. And enjoyed just as much as the highs and lows of gymnastics.

Simone Biles

Simone’s message is rooted in experience!

There are very few as qualified as Simone Biles to talk about greatness. At 27, she has not just defied the possibilities of gymnastics; she has redefined the sport itself. And her message to Nova comes from knowing that soon enough, the trials of age shall arrive. A trial that Simone is currently facing. In a sport where longevity is a question, Simone has spent 21 years on the mat, perfecting and pushing her limits. But that vigor just turned scary for her!

The ever-so-ambitious Biles, in the trailer of her upcoming Simone Biles Rising: Part 2, spoke about her fear. “Since I’m older, my body is on a ticking time bomb, she says candidly. It’s a strong statement rooted in vulnerability and carrying the weight of expectations. Yet, it is also the very journey that informs her message to Nova. The zeal that Biles sees in the five-year-old is not so different from her own story. But in Biles’ story, it wasn’t long before the love for the sport met with the eclipses of pressure.

However, despite it all, Biles continues to perform. Whether it be coming back from Tokyo distraught or winning three gold medals in Paris, there is no stopping or dwelling on Biles’ story. As Biles herself puts it, “Nothing sets your heart on fire like being so determined for a goal, and you have one chance at it.” That is the experience that Biles lives for, and Nova is thriving for. Simone Biles’ appearance on the show wasn’t about leotards and accolades. But a heartfelt message rooted in the sacrifices and joys of gymnastics.

Don’t let the smile of Jordan Chiles fool you. Despite what the Olympic gymnast looks like, she has a storm raging inside. Her 2024 Olympic hardware was stripped by an unexpected move by the CAS, but she’s holding the front. While Chiles keeps the country on its toes with the Gold Over America Tour, the fight against the CAS and the IOC continues. But the UCLA student’s mom thinks Jordan is capable of enduring tougher challenges.

Winning an Olympic medal is a lifelong pursuit for most athletes. And yet, to be able to hold it and then have it taken away would be a career-ending blow to the guts for most of us. But the 23-year-old is cut from a different cloth, and Gina knows it.

The Got It From My Momma podcast caught up with the Olympic team gold-winning gymnast’s mother recently to talk about how Jordan has been handling things lately. Talking about her daughter’s tough battle against mental health, Gina confessed that the rest of the family took a long time before even realizing the gymnast was struggling. “It seemed like she was fine because everything, you know, like her performance was good,” the senior Chiles said.

Subsequently, she also thanked Simone Biles for helping Jordan rise to her feet once again. “Simone is so, so very helpful in this situation,” Gina said.

Fresh off a history-making performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Simone Biles is back on the mat. The gymnastics GOAT is currently on a cross-country trip with the Gold Over America Tour sponsored by Athleta, along with her Olympic teammates Jade Carey and Jordan Chiles, and other star gymnasts like Shilese Jones and Kayla Dicello. “One of the reasons I wanted to create this experience was to connect with and empower young girls,” Biles tells ELLE.com. “Not everyone can travel to major competitions to see us, so we’re bringing gymnastics to them and we’re making it fun.”

In Paris, Biles picked up three gold medals in the team event, all-around competition, and vault. On the final day of competition, she also earned a silver in floor. All those wins helped her become the most decorated American Olympic gymnast ever, but for Biles, the Games have always doubled as an opportunity to speak out about issues that matter most to her. Before leaving for Paris, she opened up to ELLE.com in an intimate interview about her work in the mental health space and learning to love her natural hair. “I used to worry about [my hair being considered] not professional,” she says. “But I’m not embarrassed about it anymore.”

And now, as she shares her many successes on tour, Biles says she will continue to stay focused on her goal of getting people “excited about gymnastics.” Ahead of her Barclays Center show in Brooklyn last night, the gymnast took us backstage to see how she gets ready. Spoiler: her pre-competition routine involves some very cheesy pizza.

This year, Glamour honors Serena Williams, Taraji P. Henson, Allyson Felix and Tina Knowles with its annual Women of the Year awards.

Serena Williams, Tina Knowles and Taraji P. Henson

What do Serena Williams, Taraji P. Henson, Tina Knowles, Allyson Felix and activist Kaitlyn Joshua have in common? Beyond their notoriety, they are all honorees in Glamour’s Women of the Year issue for 2024.

This week, the publication released the honorees featured in its annual list, highlighting women across industries — including four Black women. Each receiving exclusive covers and profiles, Glamour celebrated actress Henson who, beyond her stellar performance in “The Color Purple” and amplifying the dangers of Project 2025, went viral last year for speaking on the pay inequalities Black women face in Hollywood.

“I think I was triggered,” Henson told Glamour, reflecting on her viral moment. “This big movie is coming out, and I am Taraji P. Henson, and I have this incredible track record and all this work that I’ve done, and people are putting it all together, and people are telling you, ‘You’re so amazing!’ And it’s like, Yeah, but I still am struggling with the same thing I was years ago.”

Though Henson does not consider herself a spokesperson for the matter, her industry peers, like Gabrielle Union, commended the star for her bravery. In addition to her acting career, Henson juggles leading her nonprofit, the Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation, a popular haircare line, and production company, TPH Entertainment — and most importantly, finding and protecting her peace.

Like Henson, Williams, tennis legend, mother, and founder of Wyn Beauty, is trying to juggle it all. For the former tennis star, retirement looks different as she works on her growing beauty brand, partnerships, appearances, and a venture capital fund designed to support female and BIPOC founders while simultaneously raising her two young daughters, Adira and Olympia. In addition to being a businesswoman, Williams is known for her outspoken role in the public discourse about women, especially Black women’s maternal health.

It’s an issue fellow Women of the Year honoree and mother Kaitlyn Joshua can relate to. After experiencing a traumatic miscarriage following the Supreme Court’s abortion ban, Joshua’s decision to share her story led her to become an activist for reproductive justice and a part of the Harris-Walz presidential campaign.

In addition to honoring Williams and Joshua, this year, Glamour crowned the mothers of some of the world’s biggest superstars. Among the matriarchs selected was Tina Knowles, mother of Beyoncé and Solange. Sharing her experience raising two superstars, Knowles revealed that she was very protective of her children stepping into the entertainment industry.

“I started doing the girls’ hair to earn my keep so that I could travel with them because I wanted to protect them — not because I wanted to go and be on planes every day, because there was nothing glamorous about it, but it was to protect my kids,” she told the publication. “The industry can chew you up and spit you out. And I was determined that there were not going to be certain elements around them and that they weren’t going to get eaten up by that. It just became my mission. Those are your kids, and you want to protect them and they need protection.”

Just as the Cécred chairwoman protected her daughters, she is now protecting her grandbabies as they are being raised in the spotlight. While she enjoys tapping into her inner child when around her grandchildren, she’s very serious about online trolls and critics attacking her family.

“You mess with my grandchildren, though, I’m coming,” she added. “Because they’re minors, and they didn’t ask to be in this. I have gotten [online] and let people have a piece of my mind several times, but I take a lot and then there’s certain things that I just have to draw the line on.”

This year’s Women of the Year honorees will be further celebrated at the Glamour Women of the Year gathering on October 8.

Media personality Piers Morgan has confessed that he would pay money to watch Tiger Woods play golf until he was 90-year-old.

Tiger woods

Morgan has been playing alongside pro Matthew Jordan at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland this week when he made his bold claim.

The TV host and Arsenal football fan has long been an admirer of the world’s best sports stars. Including 15-time major winner Woods.

Although the golfing legend has been plagued by injuries and controversies – including a legal battle with a clothing brand, Morgan also insisted that Woods should continue playing for as long as possible.

Piers Morgan On Tiger Woods

Tiger woods

I think Tiger should play as long as he wants. I would pay to watch Tiger Woods until he’s 90. So if he wants to keep playing golf, let him play.

I remember him being written off last time, and then he won the Masters again. And suddenly all the critics that told him to give up, look very, very stupid.

I would never, ever write off Tiger Woods. Obviously, his body’s not quite there yet, but if he was to get back to proper fitness, he’s an incredible athlete, with amazing mental strength — why can’t he carry on?

I think Tiger is the greatest to ever play the game. Just think peak Tiger, if you watch the videos of him or watched him at the time as I did, and you compare him to any other golfer in history, there’s no comparison, I don’t think.

Obviously there are other greats, but peak Tiger Woods, he would have killed everyone,’ Morgan explained.

If Piers Morgan thinks he can replicate just a fraction of Tiger Woods’ golfing success then he should probably think again! Especially after he screwed his tee shot on the 16th at St Andrews.

Morgan’s terrible attempt was being filmed and his immediate reaction demonstrated just how bad he knew he had done. And many were quick to let him know on X, formerly Twitter.

One account with the handle @fergpj simply posted ‘Haha. What a clown.’ Another saw their chance to strike by simply saying ‘Just like Arsenal. Bottled it.’

It’s highly unlikely Morgan will lose any sleep over his tee shot or the comments that came with it. However, he does need to work on his swing a considerable amount if he wants to improve.

Tyson Fury looks to bounce back from the sole defeat of his professional career when he faces Oleksandr Usyk in a highly anticipated rematch on the 21st of December. The Ukrainian became the undisputed heavyweight world champion when he defeated ‘The Gypsy King’ via split decision back in May.

Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk

Although Fury saw the final bell that night, many believe that he was fortunate to make it to the end of the fight as it could have easily been stopped in the ninth round. The Morecambe man was in trouble after a barrage of punches from Usyk sent him reeling back into the ropes. Rather than stopping the fight, though, the referee opted to give the Brit a standing eight count, allowing him to continue in the contest.

From that point, Fury needed to do something big to turn the tide in the bout. However, there wasn’t much in the way of tactical instruction coming from the Fury corner, with Tyson’s father John instead opting to bellow at his son, telling him that he was up on the cards and that he didn’t need to seek a stoppage.

As it turned out, though, Fury was in need of a knockout in order to become the undisputed heavyweight champion – and his corner came in for plenty of criticism for not making that clear to their fighter. Tyson himself recently addressed those critics during an interview in promotion of the new ‘Undisputed’ boxing video game.

Tyson Fury Explains Why he Won’t be Making Changes to his Corner for Usyk Rematch

‘The Gypsy King’ scoffed at the idea he should make any ‘drastic’ moves

Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk

“I know what I’ve got to do, nothing drastic,” Fury told host Paul Dempsey of the rematch.

“People can say ‘I want to change trainers or I’ll blame it on me conditioning coach or I’ll blame it on the cook or I’ll blame it on the mouse next door. Same team, same everything, I know what I’ve got to do. I thought I won the fight last time.”

Reflecting on the first bout, Fury explained: “I give him, [after] me boxing all my life and watching boxing my whole career, I gave him rounds eight, nine and ten, and round nine was a 10-8. So that’s what I give him out of the fight, but obviously the judges saw it a bit different, couple of them did, one of them had me winning. That’s what it was, it was as close as it can be.”

Fury has no interest in chancing his luck with the judges in December, appearing to believe that he cannot win the rematch on the judges scorecards.

“There’s no secret, I’m going in there to knock him out because I don’t think I’m gonna get a decision no matter what I do,” argued Fury. So I have to take it out of the judges’ hands. I believe I have to get him out of there.”

Fury has scored KO wins in 24 of his 34 victories. If he can secure his 25th stoppage against Usyk, then it will be the biggest result of his professional career.

Simone Biles’ arsenal is pretty deep. With 30 Olympic and World Championships golds under her belt, the Texan packs heavy when it comes to having jaw-dropping routines. Add to the mix the fact that she has five routines named after herself, and you’d get a vague idea of just how good Biles is! One of the greatest Olympian gymnasts of all time, she is a once-in-a-century talent. And yet, even she is prone to being biased to her favorite moves.

Simone Biles

When you look at someone like Simone’s career, you’d be certain that they harbor an intense passion for what she does. Week after week, she executes her routines flawlessly. But some of those skills probably bring a broader smile to her face than the others.

Simone Biles isn’t devoid of being partial

NFL’s defensive lineman Cam Heyward recently caught up with the 7x Olympic champ to talk about how things have been going with the Gold Over America Tour. During their conversation, uploaded to YouTube as an episode of Not Just Football with Cam Heyward on October 2, Biles also had to answer some questions from her fans.

Heyward revealed that he would be catching the gymnast and her posse later that day at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. But he swiftly caught an elated Biles off-guard and posed her with a question his daughter told her to ask the Olympian about the latter’s favorite move. There, Biles confessed that there’s just something about the floor exercise that makes her want to do it on repeat.

Simone Biles

…My favorite event, floor. Because I just love to tumble,” said the 27-year-old with a grin, and she had her reason too. “It’s just something that most people cannot do with the human body and I think that’s what makes us so cool,” she elaborated during the conversation with Heyward. But Biles couldn’t just keep her namesake moves out of her mouth for too long. “…the Biles I on floor which is the very first skill I got named after me,” she said with a glimmer in her eyes. Perhaps, little Khloe got to ask the answer again later that night when she went to watch the gymnast in action. But considering how things have been so far in the event, we wouldn’t be too surprised if Biles’ little fan walked away from the Gold Over America Tour with a new favorite.

The GOAT touring with the GOAT squad

The GOAT returned after three long years. The pop-styled gymnastics tour will travel across the length and breadth of the country to bring action-packed shows to fans of all ages to bring more exposure to the sport and possibly find the next generation to carry the torch forward. Biles will be joined by her national teammates Joscelyn Roberson, Jade Carey, Brody Malone, Paul Juda, and more. Simone’s BFF Jordan Chiles will also be part of the performing roster, and it seems like the Gold Over America Tour has been a welcome change of scenery for the UCLA star as she tries to put her own Olympic misfortune in the rearview mirror.

The gymnasts will hit Philadelphia on October 4, and fans hope to see Biles & Co. do what they do best again. Have you been to any of these spectacular shows? Which have been your favorite skills to watch by far, by any of the emphatic stars? Tell us which routines make you gasp in astonishment the most with a comment below!
