Coco Gauff suffered another serving disaster throughout her semi-final defeat to Aryna Sabalenka in Wuhan.

It was another catastrophic day for the Coco Gauff serve despite her getting so close to defeating Aryna Sabalenka.

The match was sealed by Gauff’s 21st double fault of the match – a record for a single match this year on the WTA Tour.

Despite her serving woes also present in Beijing last week, she still mangled to capture the title.

With Gauff’s game so well-rounded in all other categories, besides arguably her forehand, the 20-year-old still came so close to toppling Sabalenka, who has only lost one match since losing in Toronto two months ago.

Coco Gauff explains why her serve ‘surprised’ her

Giving up 21 free points is criminal – 24 could win you a set – yet not unusual in this stage of Gauff’s career.

It was the 19 double faults at the US Open which saw her title defense come to an end again in three sets.

Interestingly, the serve is obviously limiting Gauff’s success and win rate, yet not seeing her simply roll over for opponents.

Coco Gauff

She said, via Punto de Break: “I am working on new things, a slightly different movement, and it is logical that I may encounter problems. I was very surprised at how well my serve worked in Beijing.

“I arrived here somewhat tired, but I take many positive things from coming close to beating one of the best in the world despite my poor serving performance handicap. I think I just need time and to keep working.”

Barely anyone has got a set against Sabalenka in the past few months – this defeat is no major embarrassment or surprise, more just the latest miserable update in Gauff’s continued serving woes.

Coco Gauff is only one fix away from another Grand Slam title

Unfortunately, it’s not by any means a quick fix. The ‘yips’ are a brutal tattoo on any tennis player, remaining forcer difficulty to conceal.

However, her opponent Sabalenka is in many ways the perfect player to look at.

The Belarusian also endured a total serving nightmare during the 2022 season, striking 428 double faults in 601 service games.

Yet just a year on, the Belarusian captured the Australian Open title, something she successfully defended this year.

Gauff’s taste of a major title is something she’s naturally craving once more – luckily she has the perfect player in front of her to prove a route past her problems is possible.

Fourth seed Coco Gauff came from a set and a break down to beat Paula Badosa to reach her first China Open final.

The 20-year-old American dug deep to come through 4-6 6-4 6-2.

Spaniard Badosa, ranked 19th in the world but a former world number two, had looked in a good position when she served at 4-3 up in the second set.

But Gauff broke and rattled off the next four games to set up a decider, eventually wrapping up victory in two hours and 21 minutes.

She will face either unseeded Czech player Karolina Muchova or home favourite and fifth seed Qinwen Zheng in the final.

Badosa, who was as low as 140th in the world rankings in May, came into the semi-final meeting on a good run of form in Beijing which included victory over second seed and US Open finalist Jessica Pegula in the last 16.

And she took advantage of Gauff’s inconsistencies, particularly on her serve which produced 11 double faults, to win the opening set and break in the first game of the second.

Gauff is working with new coach Matt Daly after ending her partnership with Brad Gilbert last month following her fourth-round exit at the US Open, where she was defending her title.

She saved four break points to avoid going 4-1 down in the second set and from then the momentum was with the American, who regained her composure as Badosa dropped her first set of the week.

Gauff broke three times in the decider to seal the win as she bids to add to her only title of the year so far from Auckland in January.

“I tried to stay focused, it was tough but mentally I just tried to reset,” she said.

The Swifties have decided to become Caitlin Clark fans after an old tweet of the Indiana guard resurfaced.

The now-viral tweet from Clark was posted following Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s relationship going public.

“Taylor Swift welcome to the good side,” Clark wrote in a post on X with the hashtag “Chiefs Kingdom.”

Clark has expressed her loyalty to the Kansas City Chiefs as she has called herself a lifelong fan of the franchise.

The Swifties have taken Clark’s tweet and reposted it through several fan accounts on social media in the last 24 hours.

The sudden buzz was sparked after Reese released her latest podcast episode with special guest, Kayla Nicole.

Nicole is the ex-girlfriend of Kelce. On the Unapologetically Angel Podcast, Nicole spoke about her prior romance with the Chiefs tight end and how their relationship has changed since he started dating the “Karma” singer.

“We’ve seen each other in public spaces before, but it’s — I think that we’re both aware of the nature of his new situation that there’s just no room really for us to communicate or acknowledge each other publicly without it being spun into something crazy,” Nicole said.

Nicole and Kelce dated for five years until they broke up in 2022. Since Swift and Kelce started dating the previous year, Nicole revealed she’s received hate.

“I would be lying if I said that that level of hate and just, like, online chaos doesn’t impact me,” Nicole said. “It does, even to this day. You can go to my most recent post, and it will be people debating each other why I am worthless, and I’ll never be a talented person and I have no career.”

Angel Reese

After the interview was released, the Swift Army immediately criticized Reese for hosting Nicole on her latest podcast episode. However, Reese was quick to respond to the criticism via her own social media.

“hating pays too,” she wrote in a post on X.

In response to Reese’s latest interview with Nicole, Swifties have dubbed Clark as the winner of the rivalry between herself and the Chicago Sky rookie.

Clark and Reese have been pitted against each other since the two were in college. Clark was the leading lady at Iowa and Reese was the same for LSU when the two programs faced off in the 2023 NCAA women’s basketball championship.

Since then, Clark and Reese were the most notable rookies people were rooting to win Rookie of the Year. After Reese sustained an injury during the latter half of the season, it became clear Clark would win the accolade.

NFL teams are going to want Angel Reese on their sidelines once they see this impressive stat about her support.

Chicago Sky superstar Angel Reese has leaned into her NFL fandom during this WNBA offseason.

The 22-year-old former LSU Tigers standout has attended NFL games in four consecutive weeks. Three weekends ago, Reese was present at the San Francisco 49ers vs. Los Angeles Rams game in Los Angeles. Two weekends ago, she attended the game between her hometown Baltimore Ravens team and the Buffalo Bills (where she was given impressive praise from Baltimore safety Marlon Humphery). And the “Chi Barbie” was at the Chicago Bears game against the Carolina Panthers last weekend.

Reese kept the train rolling by being at Baltimore’s game against the Washington Commanders on Sunday.

Baltimore emerged with a hard-fought 30-23 win over Washington with Reese watching. And after the game, an intriguing note about Reese’s NFL fandom was made apparent on social media.

Angel Reese

The Sporting News’ X account posted a photo of the scores at three of the four NFL games Reese has been to, showing that the team she supported (the Ravens in two of the games and the Chicago Bears in the third) at every one has won.

The aforementioned 49ers vs. Rams game isn’t included because she didn’t seem to be favoring either of the two teams. Therefore, Reese seems to be a good luck charm for her favorite squads.

Despite making her Baltimore allegiance clear, Reese also showed love to Washington Commanders star quarterback Jayden Daniels (both of whom went to LSU) and took a selfie video with Daniels’ mom.

While the Chicago Bears are on bye next week, perhaps we’ll see Reese try to keep her winning streak of support alive when the Ravens play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next Monday.

After wrapping up a rookie season to remember with the Chicago Sky, Angel Reese has been embracing her love for the NFL.

Growing up in Randallstown, Maryland, just 30 minutes from Baltimore, it’s no surprise that she’s a big Ravens fan. But recently, Reese has been expanding her football fandom. In Week 5, the WNBA star was spotted at Soldier Field, cheering on the team in her new city, the Chicago Bears.

This Sunday in Week 6, Reese returned back to Baltimore to root on her hometown Ravens against the Washington Commanders. She was wearing her purple jersey on the sideline when she ran into the mother of Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels.

The two snapped a selfie, which Reese later shared on her Instagram story.

While Reese was at the game to support her Ravens, she also admitted she was there to cheer on the Commanders’ rookie star. Reese and Daniels share a connection from the two years they spent at LSU together.

“I’M HERE FOR THE RAVENS OF COURSE BUT WE HERE FOR 5 💋,” she captioned the post.

Just like Reese, Daniels is thriving in his rookie season. Both were drafted in the top seven of their respective drafts and have provided a major boost to their teams.

Reese averaged 13.6 points, a WNBA-lead 13.1 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game in 2024.

On the other hand, before Sunday’s game, Daniels had already accumulated 1,135 passing yards and four touchdowns in the air while rushing for 300 yards and four touchdowns on the ground.

Simone Biles once said, “Everyone’s mental journey is different and unique,” and her own experience really brought that idea to life. During the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, she made a decision to open up about her struggles with “the twisties,” admitting, “I feel like my body is slowly starting to shut down, like it’s ready to be done.” This candid moment was a game changer, sparking important conversations about mental health in sports.

In the end, she made the tough choice to withdraw from the Tokyo Games because of the twisties. At that time, though, it was hard to see just how significant her decision would be in raising awareness and understanding around mental health challenges faced by athletes. Let’s rewind to 2019. A staggering 970 million individuals worldwide were coping with a health condition at that time; that equates to 1 in every 8 people globally.

Today, as we look ahead to the present-day scenario revealed by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), it is evident that 57.8 million adults in the United States are facing health issues and challenges. Simultaneously with this revelation is the bravery displayed by Biles in opening up about her battles with mental health issues. As a result of Biles’s courageous transparency and openness about her struggles with mental health challenges, more athletes are finding their voice and sharing their experiences in this space. This shift towards athletes speaking out is fostering an environment surrounding mental health concerns within the sports community.

Simone Biles has echoed this sentiment, saying, “I wish I knew pre-Tokyo that everybody’s mental health journey is different; yours may not look like your friends’ or your spouse’s or whatever.” So that people would have been more open to this before the Tokyo Olympics.

By being open, Biles has inspired others to do the same, breaking down the stigma that often surrounds mental health in sports. Her bravery not only raises awareness but also saves lives by encouraging athletes to prioritize their mental well-being.

A shining example of this impact is fellow Olympic gold medalist Jade Carey. In a recent interview with Olympics.com, Carey shared, “I think after Tokyo and Simone using her voice about mental health and how we need to take care of ourselves, it really made us all kind of take a step back and realize that we’re not just robots out there in gymnastics. We have minds that we have to take care of as well.”

The Arizona native, Carey, continued, “She not only inspired me, but I know she inspired so many others just to seek help and talk to someone, because it’s not easy to do on your own.” Biles’s influence is evident in how she has prompted a broader conversation about mental health, encouraging athletes to acknowledge their struggles and seek support.

Well, Jade Carey took home her first gold medal in 2021 after a floor routine in Tokyo. However, her confidence faced a significant challenge during the 2023 season when a series of competition losses shook her self-esteem. Reflecting on that tough period, she said, “I didn’t really have the best year. I wasn’t feeling myself. I fell a bunch of times in championships, and I got left off the World [Championship] team. That was just really hard for me to deal with mentally, because I’ve never really had a year like that in gymnastics before.” To help regain her footing, Jade began speaking with a sports psychiatrist, courtesy of the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC). It was at that moment that everything changed for the 24-year-old athlete.

Simone Biles

I didn’t really put a whole lot of pressure on the situation,” Jade explained. She just made me feel more confident in myself and my abilities.” Jade acknowledged that she used to “feel bad” if she was having an off day at the gym, often avoiding telling her father or coaches because she “felt like I was just taking the easy way out.” But it was not just Jade; Simone Biles also helped Suni Lee when she needed it the most.

From pressure to purpose is the transformative power of Simone Biles’s advocacy

When Suni Lee faced a panic attack just hours before the team’s all-around final at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Simone Biles was there to provide vital support for her mental health. Lee, 21, admitted to having a “ritual” cry the night before competitions, but on this occasion, her teammate Jordan Chiles sensed Lee’s distress and immediately sought out Biles.

“She was like, ‘I’m gonna go get Simone,” Lee said. Biles, who had been asleep, offered sage advice that helped ground Lee: “You need to walk around like you’re the reigning Olympic champion, and you need to own it. You need to remind yourself that you’re good enough, and you are on this team for a reason.” This pep talk empowered Lee, who went on to win gold with her teammates later that day.

The journey to the 2024 Olympics had been a challenging one for Lee, particularly in terms of her mental health. Following her success at the Tokyo 2021 Olympics, where she won gold in the all-around and silver as part of the team, she struggled with feelings of inadequacy and faced the additional challenge of two undisclosed types of kidney disease.

Lee experienced a health setback just before the Olympic trials but ultimately secured her place on Team USA after receiving a crucial infusion. Reflecting on her experiences, she stated, “I’m at such a better place in my life,” both physically and mentally, emphasizing the importance of addressing mental health. Biles’s support not only helped Lee navigate a difficult moment but also highlighted the critical role of mental well-being and camaraderie in the world of gymnastics.

Simone Biles’s decision to openly discuss health has deeply resonated with athletes, which encouraged them to speak up about their own struggles. Canadian gymnast Ellie Black put it well when she said, “Having Simone come forward and use her platform in Tokyo was really powerful. As athletes, we’re often seen as machines, expected to handle everything without showing vulnerability. We work really hard, but we are humans, and we need to take care of ourselves first and foremost.” This shift is bringing mental health to the forefront of the conversation in sports, and it’s great to see.

Jordan Chiles also mentioned her perspective on this change in thinking about the topic at hand. She confessed that in her youth she didn’t quite connect with the concept of sports psychology. “I did try a sports psychologist when I was younger, but since you have that young mindset, you’re like, ‘No, I can do everything on my own. I’m fine,’” she recalled. Now, she encourages others to seek support: “Find somebody you can talk to…someone you can lean on.” Biles’ guidance and the discussions she has initiated have led athletes to realize the significance of well-being. This nurtured an environment where being open about vulnerabilities is not just welcomed but embraced.

Angel Reese is no stranger to the spotlight.

The Chicago Sky rookie was thrust into superstardom during her time at LSU and has blossomed into an even bigger star since entering the WNBA. And while her Sky squad didn’t make the playoffs, Reese is still managing to generate a ton of discussion about her and her “Unapologetically Angel” podcast on Thursday, despite it being the same day as Game 1 of the WNBA Finals.

Thursday’s podcast episode featured Kayla Nicole, who is most known for being the ex-girlfriend of NFL star Travis Kelce (who is currently dating pop icon Taylor Swift).

One comment Nicole made about Kelce when speaking to Reese made major waves on social media — albeit not in a good way.

“I know there was a rumor that they were saying that you stopped messing with [Travis] at one point because [they were splitting bills 50/50]?” Reese asked Nicole. “Remember they were saying that you said he was cheap? What was the tea on that?”

“Do I look like anybody that would split anything?” Nicole responded. “So yeah, that was ridiculous. But he addressed that too, though… I don’t even know why people, how that even became a thing. That was never an issue in our relationship, but it was definitely a rumor on the internet.”

Angel Reese

While Taylor Swift’s name was never mentioned in this clip, her fanbase seemed to take issue with what Nicole said.

““Do I look like a girl that would go 50/50 with anybody” holy BRAIN ROT 🤣💀 shorty think she the catch when her man was Travis Kelce and turned around and got TAYLOR SWIFT 😭😭,” one X user wrote.

Another fan added, “Travis kelce made the right decision,” referencing Kelce now dating Swift.

“Bro turned around and bagged a talented billionaire and here you are still publicly commenting on a cooked relationship. Nooticing,” noted a third.

Clearly Swifties want Nicole to move on from talking about Kelce already.

Jermall Charlo has landed a homecoming fight to end his latest ring hiatus.

The Ring has confirmed that the former two-division titlist will return to the ring on Dec. 14. Charlo (33-0, 22 knockouts) will appear on the Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis-Lamont Roach PBC on Prime Pay-Per-View event from Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.

Jermall Charlo and Gervonta Davis

An opponent was not yet identified as this goes to publication. However, The Ring has learned that the leading candidate is Thomas ‘Cornflake’ LaManna (38-5-1, 17 KOs). Such a fight would take place at the full super middleweight limit.

PBC creator Al Haymon was scrambling to replace an injured Nico Collins on his NFL Fantasy Football team and not in a position to comment.

Houston’s Charlo will have been out of the ring for a little more than a year by fight night. He ended a 29-month ring absence with a ten-round win over Jose Benavidez Jr. (28-3-1, 19 KOs) last Nov. 25 in Las Vegas. Charlo missed the agreed-upon weight for the bout, checking at a career-heaviest 166.4 pounds.

Gervonta, David, and Lamont Roach Jr

With that will come his second straight fight at super middleweight. Charlo previously held the IBF junior middleweight and WBC middleweight titles.

Previous rumors had Charlo potentially facing fellow former two-division titleholder Demetrius Andrade. However, The Ring has confirmed that it was false hope and that such a matchup was never budgeted for the Davis-Roach undercard.

Charlo’s last fight at home came in a June 2021 points win over Juan Macias Montiel (23-6-2, 23 KOs). The bout also took place at Toyota Center, and marked the fourth and final defense of his WBC middleweight title.

Personal issues forced an extended ring break. With it came canceled plans for a June 2022 title defense versus Maciej Sulecki at this very venue.

Charlo was eventually relieved of the WBC 160-pound bout due to an inability to defend versus interim titlist and mandatory challenger Carlos Adames (24-1, 18 KOs). A designation of ‘Champion in Recess’ was bestowed upon Charlo, though he is not due to return to middleweight.

Gervonta, David, and Lamont Roach Jr

Should this matchup transpire, it will mark the third career fight above 160 for LaManna.

The 32-year-old from the southern part of New Jersey has won eight in a row since a May 2021 knockout loss to Erislandy Lara. The bout come with a secondary version of the WBA middleweight title. Lara was since upgraded to full titlist, while LaManna has been on the comeback trail.

In his most recent start, LaManna scored a second-round knockout of the normally serviceable Juan Carlos Abreu (26-8-1, 24 KOs). Their June 8 clash took place in LaManna’s home region of Atlantic City.

Tiger Woods has left Florida as he bids to avoid Hurricane Milton, while Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry’s houses are both in weather alert areas.

Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy

Tiger Woods has reportedly fled from the path of deadly Hurricane Milton. The huge storm made landfall in Florida on Wednesday night and has already wrecked havoc across the state.

The golf legend’s private plane was spotted edging away from the fearsome storm and was picked up by radars flying away from Florida on Wednesday morning. The account which reported Woods’ escape from the storm then claimed his plane was making its descent towards Jackson, Mississippi.

Why Woods’ plane was heading specifically to Jackson remains unknown according to Golf Magic, however he is not the only golfing star who was in danger of facing the full force of the hurricane. Irish stars Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry’s grand residences in Florida were also on high alert as Milton made its way in their direction.

TIGER WOODS

Both players own luxury homes in Jupiter, Florida, which has been under a ‘tropical storm warning’. As tension was building ahead of the hurricane’s arrival, Shane’s wife, Wendy Lowry posted an Instagram photo of the couple’s child cycling, captioning it “Calm before the storm.”

McIlroy has made Jupiter his home since buying property there from fellow golf star Ernie Els in 2011. Lowry then became a local in 2017, just ahead of his Open triumph at Royal Portrush. McIlroy’s home, believed to be worth in the region of a staggering £17million, resides on 2.4 acres and is reported to have 10 bathrooms in addition to the nine bedrooms across the sprawling property. The South Florida residence also features a stunning infinity pool, as well as a games room, tennis court, home theater, recording studio and state-of-the-art gym.

Tiger woods

The 13,000-square-foot home also has a six-car garage where the golfing icon will be hoping his hefty car collection is safe from Milton’s path. Just outside the property, where McIlroy lives with his wife Erica Stoll, there are dozens of foliage, including several palm trees and a private golf course.

Prior to the once in a century storm, an official from Pasco County, Florida, warned its 600,000 residents: “This is your last chance to take shelter. After that, you’ll need to find a way to the shelter or be prepared to ride out the storm.”

Milton, which built into a Category 5 storm as it barreled across the Gulf of Mexico towards Florida, collided into the sunshine state and has caused devastation. Widespread damage and flooding have meant large parts of the area are no-go zones.

Tragically, multiple deaths have already been confirmed, after a series of tornadoes unleashed by the mega storm destroyed homes and flattened communities. The storm originally made landfall as a Category 3 Hurricane but Milton dropped to a Category 2 hurricane as it tore through the centre of Florida and officials now fear the death toll will only rise.

United States President Joe Biden warned that evacuation ahead of the storm was “life and death.” While, Ron DeSantis, governor of Florida, said: “Absolutely every place on the west coast of Florida could get a major storm surge.” Hurricane Milton comes less than two weeks after Hurricane Helene hit the Gulf Coast as a category four storm, killing at least 225 people across Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia.

Simone Biles and Co. have a busy week ahead. After their Charlotte, North Carolina show, the team will perform three back-to-back shows until October 15. However, they’ll start the three-show sprint at Sunshine City, Florida. While the Gold Over America Tour will move to Orlando on October 12, they perform their first show at the famous Amerant Bank Arena.

Simone Biles

Like many of the other arenas they’ve visited, Amerant Bank Arena is among the best venues in the States. In fact, the Amerant Bank Arena claims to be “the most notable sports and entertainment venue in Florida and among the best in the world.” However, what truly gives the Arena its character is that like many prestigious venues, Amerant is home to a sports team.

Learn about NHL’s Florida Panthers’ home, Amerant Bank Arena

Unlike many stadiums where Simone Biles and the Gold Over America Tour have performed, Amerant Bank Arena was just a concept in 1992 when H. Wayne Huizenga sought a home for the Florida Panthers NHL team. The business mogul and Panthers co-owner envisioned a state-of-the-art facility for his team, which eventually became a reality.

While the Panthers played their home games at the now-demolished Miami Arena, which they shared with the NBA’s Miami Heat, Blockbuster Video co-owner H. Wayne Huizenga wanted a dedicated arena for the team. He found the perfect location when City Manager Pat Salerno announced plans to build a $167 million civic center near Sawgrass Mills in Sunrise, Florida.

After selecting the site in June 1996, H. Wayne Huizenga aimed to accomplish the daunting task of constructing an arena in just 26 months. Despite the challenges, and with the help of Ellerbe Becket, $185 million, and 2.3 million man-hours, the arena opened in September 1998—just one month behind Huizenga’s ambitious target, but still in time for the 1998 NHL fall season.

Simone Biles

On October 3, 1998, Celine Dion performed at the grand opening of Amerant Bank Arena. The purpose-built facility accommodates 19,000 spectators, with the capacity to exceed 20,000 for special events. The arena also boasts 70 suites and the Amerant Vault Club, which includes over 2,500 seats. Beyond its impressive amenities, the home of the Florida Panthers is a highly active venue, regularly hosting a variety of events.

An overview of the major events held at the venue hosting Simone Biles and Co.?

According to the American Bank Arena website, the venue hosts over 125 events annually. This not only shows that the venue can handle a lot of traffic but is flexible enough to host varied events. While built for the Florida Panthers, the venue hosts everything from college and high school commencement ceremonies to full-fledged concerts.

Simone Biles

The Simone Biles-led Gold Over America Tour is a one-of-a-kind event that combines gymnastics with music and storytelling. It’s no surprise that the arena hosts approximately 1.2 million visitors annually. This year alone, the event lineup has been extensive. In addition to the Gold Over America Tour, the venue has welcomed musicians such as Bryan Adams, Toto, Journey, Enrique Iglesias, and more earlier this year.

Besides hosting Panthers games since its inception, the arena has also enjoyed a long-standing relationship with WWE. Beginning with RAW in 1999, Amerant Bank Arena has hosted multiple WWE events over the years. The latest pro wrestling show to grace the venue was the August 2024 edition of WWE Main Event.

Simone Biles and Co. won’t be the last big act visiting the arena this year. Justin Timberlake will arrive at the Forget Tomorrow World Tour on November 8. 2024. Coincidentally, Amernat Arena will be the third common area between GOAT and the multiple-time Grammy award-winning artist.

The first common venue was the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia and then their most recent venue, Spectrum Center in Charlotte, NC. So it’s easy to see why GOAT chose the prestigious stadium. Yet, what are your views on Simone Biles and Co.’s next venue? Have you attended an event at the Arena? Let us know in the comments.
